Good Find?

Recommended Posts

FRN I think I have a 3wt line

Hold that thought, lets see if Saltybum needs a Plan B. I am sending this reel to him NMW, and as luck would have it, found another Martin 81. Need to test mechanics but we always cared for gear in winter, when pheasant season closed. This one probably needs a good home, too.

I think my Uncle had one of these Auto -Winds on everything he used. Already gave one to my nephew.

Have my father's Martin 49 A on a keepsake steel fly rod, only one made of metalI have ever had. His name is etched in the red finish.

May have a 3wt here. Seems like my 3wt rods are happier with 4wf. No hurry for sure with the Butte ugly stuff.

I will get the line along to u shortly.

Salty, I am shipping the reel this week, whatever you do-do not spend money on a 3w. Vicente has one I can perhaps borrow or buy, until I decide if a 4 is the way to go. I am just not sure on the rod from steel, it feels like it is intermediate between a mod & fast. Probably a 4 is going to fit my needs and style best. Going to see if local rod dealer will let me demo a 3w wf line as soon as weather permits. Then a 4w wf.

Kismet, Karma, Prayer, Meditation, whatever one feels like calling it, is VERY good today. Just got a pre-paid order from guy for flies and he put money on a guided kayak, warm water trip, when we actually have warm water.

Bad news still cannot upload pictures or text with my Windows 10 devices, worth a tinker's dang, or I would show you of reels and give you the choice.

Are you using a double taper or wf on the 3 wt, I would think a double taper would be the best bet, if you're using it for local creeks and streams.

I ordered (cheepies) weight forward 3 and 4 to test on my new rod. Consulted Steel first & have other 4's, this is first 3.

I am not worried about Double Taper for roll casting. I can do 50 feet, easy, with my 5.5 Fran Betters Custom, lined with 6wf, in still water, standing in my boat. This new rod just did not seem like a fast action, unlike my current graphites.

After seeing what Steel recommended, I went WF, reasoning that it would be more versatile. Will reload if wrong after testing.

Dang, this is going to be fun....smile.pngsmile.pngsmile.png
