soft hackle

Recommended Posts

I tend to wait until the cat brings me in a Starling sad.gif

The best soft hackle feather for me has to be Golden Plover.

I like them all. I use hungarian partridge, french partridge, ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, sharptailed grouse, woodcock, snipe, pigeon, starling, blackbird, crow, hen greenwing teal, quail, and just about any bird the cat wants to drag in!

Woodcock... cool colors! headbang.gif

Where can one get woodcock? I've read about it, of course, but never seen it for sale anywhere.

Hey, Joe: You might try Anglers Den (formerly English Angling Trappings).

I've got two skins and several in the freezer waiting to be skinned, courtesy of my bird-hunting friend. I'll send you a few feathers if you want to check them out... just shoot me an e-mail with your address.

Here's a nice woodcock pattern:

Good luck with Anglers Den. Since Jim sold it, I have had nothing but problems with them. I made an order about a year ago and still haven't received everything from them. I won't use them again. You might check out Theriault Flies in Patten, Maine also. Alvin may have what you're looking for as well.
