Fifty Fly Project

Recommended Posts

PTN, Frank Sawyer, 1958.

The pattern in the book called for the entire body, including thorax to be wrapped pheasant tail. Subbed peacock for Thorax out of habit.

Booby Fly, Gordon Fraser, c.1975

Tied with a foam head instead of styrene balls. Tested it in the pool with a weighted leader (furled floro) swam as advertised. Then went and fished it in green, blue and white, and they all worked there too.

Holy Mackerel, Steve Abel, 1985

The pattern called for an 8/0 hook, tied on a 4/0, could not find an SBS for this so went with the recipe in the book.

Polish Woven Nymph, 1986

Subbed soft hackle for synthetic as I tied a few of these up. Once you get your arms figured out when weaving, keep going.

Syl's Midge, Sylvester Nemes, 1991.

Another pattern that struck me after tying it. More of these are in my box.
