SBPatt 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2021 Notional tying sequence but there aren’t many materials or routes to get from bend to eye. hook - WFC Model 3 #12 thread - Uni 8/0 camel rib - x-small wire gold abdomen - turkey biot dark tan thorax - pronghorn hackle - pronghorn dyed brown (1 Tbs Rit Golden Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Dark Brown/1 cup water) wing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan Start thread at 3/4 mark; tie in rib, wrap to bend Tie in moistened biot; wrap to 3/4 mark, tie off/trim Rib body; helicopter end/cover with thread Clean, stack, measure (hook length) a clump of ungulate hair; trim/tie in with 2 loose wraps, let it spin Tie in CH; fold forward, tie down Pull hair forward; tie down at eye, creating a ball, then stroke tips back and tie down Half hitch x 2, SHHAN, trim wing Regards, Scott Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It’s definitely softer than deer or elk and probably won’t last thru too many fish but with a fly like this, durability isn’t going to be a strong point no matter what hair is used. Then again, I’ve had deer hair bullethead flies explode after a couple of fish and they were still effective. To tell the truth, this one was tied for fun because I thought it looked interesting. I’ll give it a try this summer because I like to spend my time on the stream experimenting; if it catches a fish or two, that’ll be cool.
