Another 2wt done and ready to go. Dark green & gold makes for a nice combo on this color blank. Addition of a bit of spiral over wraps on just the ferules and stripping guide add just the right amount of flash to it.

Agreed on color and grip.. On ferrules do you mean that a 1 or 2 or 3 piece would be preferred?

by myself for sure, 1 or 2 piece at that length, 2 piece up to 9', 3 piece 9' to 12'; if it will fit across the dash board rigged and apart, the pieces are short enough.

More pieces mean more assembly-disembly time lost from fishing, more joints to come unjointed while fishing and more parts to get lost, I very much like simple. Now from a manufacture point of view, shortest pieces could make repairs under guarantee cheaper and I suspect make the initial rolling of rod sections much easier/cheaper.

tjm, i bet Steve sees lot more ferrule repairs than ever before because there are way more ferrules in use than ever before even though ferrules are better made and re-enforced.

My experience is the same on 2-piece rods, the opposite on 3-pc. I do not travel ANYWHERE with Uncased rods. I have one of Steel's 11 foot, 3-piece rods that is magical in my hands. The only slight drawback is that I wish it was 4-piece because well-made cases for the approximate 37 inch pieces are difficult to find. I know I could DIY something PVC, but well-made and my skill is not a great match, so I am mainly using cases for 9-foot 2-pc. Not an issue in my old truck. Big issue when traveling in the sedan with spouse because the longer tubes do not pak or store in either back seat area or trunk without forcing them into odd angles, when we need the space for 2 travelers' luggage or toys. My 4-Pc rods fit great but none are my preferred choice on the water. I like the magic of this Clark rod, it fits my casting style and I miss it on road trips. Thus more ferrules not less, are best for me. Just sayin different strokes for different strokes. Never broke a rod since casing them up. Broke every single one I had, before realizing good cases were best for me.

I fit two two piece rods in a 2" pipe with socks, your three piece should fit nicely,, end cap and adapter can be glued on but I have a couple of these that I put together dry and they work fine. Complete it should be @2-3" longer than your rod sections. Buy two each of the fittings and make two cases from that 10' pipe

Sch40 is almost indestructible except by heat or solvent. Rods will be safe.

Any farm store or building supply should have these in stock, I just used Lowes because they have pictures

Thank you sir. Appreciate that you did the homework for me. I have used similar pipe on flights to and from Texas, to fish Lake Fork and Possum Kingdom. Zero causalties except nice bass with some piercing before release.

 

Have you done any DYI cases such as these with added cover, padding or stuff to protect the reel while keeping rods taken down with reel left and fully rigged? That might be ideal for setup I most prefer. Ace is only option within 40 miles from my home and hopefully they carry the items I will need. Grateful for any and all ideas...

FRN. I've always packed the reels separately, imo they stick out looking for an accident, Too much torque can be applied too easy in directions neither the reel nor the reel seat is designed for. Sore thumb sorta. reel can travel in a vest pocket or a dedicated reel case. Simple dyi cover for reel or spare spool is toe/foot cut off a heavy sock, wack it off right at the hole worn in the heel.Small ladies purse from a thrift store could be repurposed as a reel case.

I've done some PVC tubes myself and they work pretty good. Only issue is when doing it for a 10-11ft 3pc like you have then they can get a tad heavy with PVC. I have a guy out in Colorado that runs a custom tube business I use a lot. His prices are very reasonable and he could do one for any length rod.
