little and large black jobbies

Black Gnat and Hawthorn fly. Essentially the same design, I used Joseph Ludkin's Flat wing Reel Wings to good effect on the Hawthorn, but I did have to split the wings to get them to lay flat on top of each other.

Very nice flies Skulpin', I certainly wouldn't have called them s***! (In Scotland jobbies are turds).

Seriously though, a few years ago I carried different flies for heather and hawthorn falls. However, I discovered that they both work every bit as well in either fall. If anything the heather fly had a slight edge over the hawthorn. Now I just carry a very similar heather fly to yours.

As for the little black midge. Well it is a pattern no trout fisherman should leave home without. My version (quite similar to yours) has saved me from blanks countless times.

Cheers,

C.
