I wish I could find a saddle right now to buy.

Thanks rstout and Rockworm. I think I'll start sizing them while watching tv with the family. Good idea.

I read an article from Ak Best about your tying bench. In the article he says he has his hackle all sizes by size and color in seperate containers. I'm curious if he sits down with a neck and sizes every feather one by one? That would take a long time. I know it would be faster to tie with in the long run but that would take a few hours for 1 neck. Is there anyone our there that does this or knows how he does it? Thanks for the info. Jeremy

I have both and they are two totally different vises. The Traveler is a true rotary vise where the spartan isn't. It can be used like a rotary vise but if you want true rotary get the Traveler. I like the Spartan for tying small flies since you can tip the head up have a fairly open bend of the hook. I have tied to a 22 on the traveler without problems so don't think you can't. The Traveler is great for dries if you like to spin the hook instead of the hackle. I would try them to see what you like better. I also have a Dyna KIng Barracuda and it's also a great rotary vise.

When we fish for stripers on the boat its usually clam or chunk bunker. Trout is 100% fly.

I was talking to a gent today who ties commercially for like 30 years. He said he ties from 7am to 11pm 7 days a week. He said he can tie 2 dozen an hour. I could never do that. He told me he lays all his material out and has 7 vises through out the room. He was a very nice guy. Jeremy

Look at the top of the page. J stockard is great if you don't have anyone local. Feather-craft, hook N hackle, and The fly shop ,are a few others I go through. Jermey

Congrats, As long as you like it thats all that matters. Jeremy

I personally tie on TMC whenever I can. J Stockard is having a sale right now so. Some places can order 100 packs and that will save you a few bucks. As Charlie Craven said, a hook is the cheapest part of your whole setup, why scrimp there. Jeremy

I just bought two new vises. I got a new Dyna King Barracuda and a HMH Spartan. The Barracuda is a great rotary vise but I like a small fixed vise for midges. The HMH head tips up to about the 1230 position on a clock which is great for size 20 2488h hooks. I was tying on a Renzitti Traveler which I'm going to leave at the camper so I can just bring up materials when I go up to fish. Jeremy

I tell ya Bruce, those flies amaze me. I don't think I'll ever have he patience to tie those. Truly amazing. The first fly of any pattern for me is the hardest. Like Voodoo said, then something just clicks. Jeremy

They are very good vises. Are you looking at the regular or saltwater? Either way they are great. Jeremy

I also use the Shoprite version of the reading glasses. 7.99 for the glasses. I think they're better than the dollar store ones. I use 1.0 for most tying and switch to 1.5 for anything 20 and under. I love the rotary vise. I have a Dyna King Barracuda and it's great. I don't know what you tie but I have a Renzetti Saltwater Traveler I am probably selling. Jeremy.
