  4. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: Had been talking all week about a fly some of his friends from out west had mailed him.He kept calling it the "reservation wre".Asked me if he brought it in ,could i tie him a couple dozen up at 2 dollars a fly.I said sure.Turns out,the fly was a combo zugbug and prince nymph.Had the peackock tail of the zug bug and the white goose biots of the prince.so,i got on the net at work and showed him the zug bug and the prince and he told me to tie half and half,so thats what i did.I timed myself when i tyed them,it took 2 hours and 17 minutes to tie 24 flies.Does that seem about right? And 40 bucks for 24 flies,is that about right.said he had some friends that might be wanting a few dozen in a few days. shane iso18
  5. satchmo,i got mine from sport mart for just under 10 bucks,it has a magnet on it that holds ure flies and a foam line to put flies on,it also fits on your vice.I find my self laying materials and flies on it more than using the gauge though.Ilove it shane

    bug skin

bug skin, you r referring to the material that is either blackish on one side,or goldish, and the other looks like leather?Name bugskin. If this is it,i have one pattern and since i didn't make it to the second round i guess its not against any rules to share this pattern.I tied it for ftoty. It's called the bugg eyed stone. Hook-# 8 nymph tail-goose biots-color of choice abdomen-blended grey antron, hares web and angora goat-with bug skin pulled over abdomen rib-fine copper wire wing pads-two mottled turkey feathers cut in v shape and one bug skin pad,,being youre last pad legs-japanese nymph legs eyes-burned mono antennae-black rubber strands first time i ever tied this pattern kinda just through a couple of other patterns and tweaked them a bit and came up with this. i think it actually came out kinda cool. i'm planning on fishing it this year. hope this helps shane aka iso18

    help

trim butt ends of hackle to 1/8 inch to prevent slippage.Hmm,tie the hackles in,butts facing toward the eye and shiny side facing you.Three turns in behind wing and two in front as a general rule.Read all you can about tying dry flies and the best possible thing would be to watch someone with experience tie some dries,if not waych videos on the web, google adams dry or dry fly tying videos. my 2 cents shane
  12. is it 3 strands and flat? shane
  13. on the same page with u there.every fly i tied for ftoty was a new fly i had never tyed, with the exception of 2.I guess like some o\have said,i have great days and horrible days at the vice, just mayb e need to remember to take my klonopin before starting a new pattern. shane p.s. i changed excellent to good to fit my description of my opinion of my tying in your quote.

    hackle

Trim butt ends of hackle to about 1/8 inch,so your thread will grasp the hackles better, therefore reducing slippage.tie hackles in so-shiny side of hackle is facing you with the butt ends pointing toward the hook eye.And as a general rule, three wraps behind the wings and two in front. hope this helps shane
  15. well, what a relief it looks like the majority r right there where im at.Decent, while critiquing and getting frustraed with new techniques.I also feel i can tie any fly,its just that it may take me a minute and i am never satisfied. For insatance just tied three new patterns out of hatches and cant stop obsessing about them but a couple of my friends looked at the flies and say they look like the ones in the picture, but i knew where i had trouble when tying them and where i could've should've did better and quicker.........I also have ocd,i wonder if this might be a little of the problem. shane
  16. was just wondering, because i am constantly critquing my flies when i try new techniques and often get frustrated with the whole outcome.but then come tommorrow,i will be right back at it with a different attitude trying to improve on my shortcomings. shane
  17. r u going to sale these? shane

  21. in randal kaufmans The fly tyers nymph manual....Go to the rubber legs and his pictures and text helped me better understand weaving than any video i have ever saw or article i have ever read. The best possible way to learn is to look over the shoulder of a master weaver at work..This is somethign i wish i had the oppurtunity to do also. shane
