  5. Smalliehunter has been doing battle with the flu the past couple of days. I'm sure that he'll get round 2 ready to go as soon as he has time once he is feeling better.
  6. I couldn't be happier for you, Mike. That stuff couldn't have gone to a better family.
  7. There is no set length. we've got articles that are a couple hundred words, and some that are over 1000. Thanks, Alex
  8. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into FTF and especially the contest, Will. :headbang:
  9. I work about 3 minutes from Guilderland, live about 20 minutes north. The fishing here is awesome. It's all warmwater(second to none) other than stockers within the hour mark. From 1-3 hours out, the trout fishing is excellent; or if you get bored with trout you can be standing in the ocean; or in a Lake Ontario trib. Shoot me a PM when you're settled in.
  10. I heard a Nirvana song played on a classic rock radio station not too long ago.
  11. There are few tyers who can make complexity look so simple. Well done, Hans.

    Tying Show

I'll be tying at the same show, and have in the past. If you've been to their little expo in the past, you know that there isn't a lot of extra room for materials, etc. So I'd recommend knowing what you're going to tie ahead of time, and then have the materials for each fly ready to go in small zip-lock baggies. That will help you have a clean work space, and a little leg room at the table. You'll have space to display some flies you've tied, and the people who walk around to watch usually spend more time looking at the flies you've already tied than what you're tying. All in all, it's an excellent weekend considering the number of 'big names' we have in our area who will all be sitting around the same table. Must be something in the water.
  13. Thanks, Steve. I appreciate the advice :headbang:
  14. Nice shots, Steve. All those years living in MI and I never made the stop in Frankenmuth.

  16. To add to what I said before, he usually does the best in the early summer by sight fishing for them. He'll slowly walk around the edge of the pond until he sees one swimming. Then he'll dap the fly in and sort of jig it around. Usually he'll get an eat w/in the first couple jigs, then just lift the fish out of the water.
  17. We have a small pond in our neighborhood that is loaded with them. My son does pretty well getting them with brown woolly buggers.
  18. Welcome to FTF! What do you like to fish for?
  19. As Winter approaches, the staff at Hatches Magazine would like to encourage all of you to contribute an article to the online version of Hatches Magazine. Remember, Hatches started out as a grassroots effort by the members of this forum. We want to continue showcasing the talent and knowledge of the members of FTF to the rest of the world! We are looking for step-by-steps, videos, how-to, fly patterns, product reviews, interviews, and just about any other type of fly tying article you can think of! If you're from another country and are worried that you don't speak the best English, or if you speak English and don't feel you're a good writer- Don't worry! Our editorial staff is there to help you make your article successful! If you have an article, or an idea for an article, please contact me via email (below). We can't guarantee we'll use every piece or idea submitted, but we do promise to give you and your idea the respect it deserves as we do our best to put together the best possible online supplement to the print version of Hatches. Writers whose work is chosen will receive gift certificates to the Hatches Book & DVD Store! Send queries or articles to: [email protected] Thanks, Alex
  20. I thought it meant that the tyer wanted to go out with you, Will.
  21. You could probably dye it yourself if the color you're looking for doesn't turn up.
  22. I love the wing on this one, Hub. :headbang:
  23. utyer- I'll be tying examples of each style of fly, for each species of mayfly- hopefully, with a little help from my friends- and posting them alongside pictures of the natural and relevant info. I've been working on this project for about 3 years now, collecting insects and photographing them, and now it's time for phase 2. Big project, I know. Thanks, flytire. JSzymczyk- I understand where you're coming from, but yes, I am just looking to inventory generally accepted styles.
