  1. That's a sweet reel to put on that nasty rock. Some type of jack it looks like. Amberjack maybe??
  2. Been a while folks but happy to be back. See quite a few old buds here. I enjoyed this swap in the past and remember how hard it was to wait until Xmas morning to open flies. Be. glad to join will send PM
  3. Should be able to catch alot of suckas!!
  4. DevinKaradeema, If Steve is old, what does that make the rest of us? :wallbash: Am I really considered old now that Im over 40. Maybe I am. I feel kind of beat up and sore today after only a few hours rowing yesterday. :crying:
  5. That is almost like those tarantulas you tied up for me Paul. As I posted earlier, that fly really kicked some bass ass for me.
  6. Paul I fished your frog yesterday in Bill Skilton's lake in Mt Holly Springs, PA . I did real well with it and landed about 8 bucket mouths up to 12 inches or so. The real producer however was that black tarantula you tied up for me in the past. I landed 6 bass and about a dozen monster gills, including the catch of the day,,,,, a sweet 16 inch LM right at the edge of of a lilly pad. I had cast it and was sort of daydreaming looking at the pads and BAM, the water exploded and he turned quick to get into the pads. Some quick side pressure action kept me out of trouble and I brought this big boy in. He had swallowed it so deep the hook was at least an inch behind that "tongue" in their mouths. The tarantula didnt work as well in the shallow end of the lake or maybe it was due to the clearing sky and mid afternoon sun, but I switched to the frog and was amazed that I was still about to get another 8 or so fish at mid day on top water flys. Two flys fished all day and I couldnt tell which was the Bosser Boss Fly. I liked the action on the frog too, as it dove on stripping action and popped with rod twitches. Landed upside down a bit but it was easily righted with one or two twitches.
  7. Good Deal Steve. Another six hours east and we could have you in the salt come fall!!!!!!. What were the water temps there last week?
  8. Got mine in the mail yesterday as well. Looks like a great bunch of bugs. I especially liked Mrs. Hub's and Floyd's. Thanks everyone!!
  9. That is a real special submission. I love it!!!.. Any chance on offering a step by step?
  10. Got mine on Friday. I really like the handstand and the streamer that wasnt labeled (looked like a supersized caddis pupae/bugger) who tied that one and what is it called.
  11. I had a great trip this past weekend fishing some spring creeks and mountain freestoners in the foothills located in South Central PA a little northwest of Gettysburg in the South Mountain area. Three days of fishing with 7 other guys from our Delco Manning TU chapter organized and guided by Craig Hull of Troutgetter. On friday I had my best day in numbers (22) and landed the trifecta of wild fish on drys I have been dreaming of for the several years Ive been chasing trout now. I got the brookies, bows and browns all on a cdc and coastal deer caddis (actually the same I tied for "the ONe you turn to Swap". The takes were small but aggressive and my guide had me shortlining pocketwater and the fish werent very spooky so it turned out great. I actually fished the same fly from about 11 am until 4 pm. These wild fish were all small ranging in size from 4-8" but their beauty more than made up for their small size. Caught some stocked brookies early in the day on nymphs to about 16" On Saturday, I fished private water with the main guide at the top of South Mountain on a peacock farm. I got nine that day including a 20" stream bred wild brown and several browns and bows in the 17 and 18" range. I caught most on a #18 black quill dry on my 6.5' 3wt and 6x tippet. Funny thing on reflection was the limited fight these "trophy" fish gave. They certainly seemed like they understood the catch and release drill. They werent easy to catch and didnt come right to the net but I have to admit that I was a little disappointed in their hootzpah. Seemed almost like pet trout kept for the limited guides that the farmer allows on his property. ???????? Sunday we fished the Adams County TU project waters on Conewago Creek near Biglersville. Got 8 or 9 again on ant drys (dam its early for ant patterns) and had some real fun getting in tight to the banks and under alot of tree cover. The tips on improving my roll cast from Craig the day before certainly went a long way to getting these fish. The ant pattern the guide gave me was a parachute ant tied on an emerger hook. I also learned a new way to tie the dropper fly on with a perfection loop . What I want now is to find that 20" fish that has never seen a fly before or been hooked! Do I need to move out west or just spend more time walking the banks and looking for that renegade fish that survived all the put and take meat fisherman?
  12. Marty Here is a blog a friend of mine wrote about chasing GTs and bonefish off of Christmas island. From what I recollect the GTs may be a bit much for the long rod. you may better stick to Small Ts here is the blog http://kiritimati.blogspot.com/
  13. Do they stock as much in Canada as they do down here? Nice looking water. and you really dont have to practice catch and release alllll the time
  14. I gotten a few stripers with this merkins variant. No luck with the Tog off the South Jetty, which after better consideration was probably a good thing as it would have likely taken my fly line into the rocks. Dam slippery bass! Ive also made some with rabbit zonker claws and red marker
  15. I want one of those mini hubs. They are just tooooooo cute. But that young lady looks like trouble
  16. Here are a couple of my niece and nephew. They and their older brother have all caught their first fish with Uncle Bob. Little Nicki looks a bit trepidatious but you should have seen the bass he once pulled from this impoundment on New Year's day. It looked like a big ole "southern" LM and proved that if you get a bass in the middle of a NE winter its going to be a lunker. They had a blast that day sight fishing with spinning gear, a floating bug and some splitshot. Twitch twitch bam all day
  17. Nice ty and one of my favorites. I think the color blend is interesting. I was wondering if you have any pics of the real caddis?
  18. Good ole Doyle the Dog got three two foot long garter (I think) snakes while on his walk along the stream behind my house last Friday. The township had just cut the fields and I think the snakes must have all congregated along the safety of the bank. He got all three within about 10-12 feet. Hopefully it was just from the grass cutting or we may be having a problem. :shocking: I certainly didnt tell my wife as she would never go down there again. All snakes were released unharmed (relatively anyway) as they all quickly slithered away.
  19. I love the G gnat too and fish it all year long, even winter. I love your high vis addition and will certainly tie some up that way. These eyes even at forty gave up on trying to see my tiny drys and I just lift up on any rise along my drift path.
  20. A dry top would be a good addition if you can pick one up. Saved me some serious chills while kayaking the NJ surf in spring and fall conditions. I know you're a true outdoorsman and Im sure you're well researched and know what you're doing but please make sure you got that dry bag with the essentials (dry clothes, matches, energy bars) and dont feel nerdy in attaching it to your person. a mouth guard may be good if you're getting into some real whitewater too. I read an article about a guy who bit his own tongue off when he rammed a crest. You may want to check out the American Canoe Association site for some trip checklists and such. We require each member of our kayak club to maintain membership in the ACA mainly for the trip insurance you can get through them. Hopefully my bride never has to collect. ' Have fun, stay dry and be safe.
  21. We hit a local (Slow Food ) farmers market today and met some guy selling pet products. We bought a bar of this soap that supposedly keeps the ticks off your dog. He told me to just rub it on the dog dry. Im going to try it on both Doyle and ME the next time we head out to the crieks. I will report back. PS anyone want to go in for a 1/4 or 1/2 butchered Grass fed cow.
  22. Check out the Gartside Wet mouse for an interesting and small subsurface pattern. I got one in a recent gartside swap and havent had the opportunity to fish it yet but it looks reallllllll interesting. That sure is an interesting bass. Certainly different than both our small mouth and large mouth we have here in the states. Looks like a hybrid of a small mouth and maybe a striper??????? do you have any info on the species? Bob
  23. Welcome Gerry. Dont worry about the typing.... The REBs here dont read too good no how.!!! (Bit of a Platoon quote)
  24. Best wishes for you mom, Mark. Good time to try and cook a simple dinner or even just dust and vacuum the house. Im sure she will appreciate your prayers, but some simple help may be extra useful when she is feeling under the weather.
  25. Here is an easy pre formed foam head frog fly that I use to great success in some local ponds and lakes for LM bass. Bucktail, krystal flash and streamer feather tail. streamer hackle collar, rubber legs pulled through heated bodkin made hole with dental floss threader marker spots and stick on eyes. I use a stinger hooker for sure hook ups.
