    Welcome aboard! Mike
  2. KHoss....I went out and bought some 49 strand this weekend after reading about it on a pike forum, just curious, why do you prefer the 19 strand? Thanx Mike
  3. Welcome aboard! Mike :headbang:
  4. Welcome aboard! Mike :headbang:
  5. It was a great magazine! I had a subscription to it until it folded and the remainder of my subscription rolled over to American Angler..... Mike
  6. Ditto on Chris Helm at whitetailflytying.......you can't go wrong Mike
  7. Ditto what they said......plus the quality of the hair you are using could really affect your tying.....there is a definite learning curve in trying to pick out the right deer hair for the type of fly you are trying to tie......my first recommendation would be to call Chris Helm @ white tail flytying and explain to him what you are looking to tie and what colors/sizes and he will hand pick the right patches for you...also make sure you get some GSP thread......having the right materials makes a big difference and cuts down on the frustration..... I think his website is: www.whitetailflytying.com something like that Mike
  8. I love nightfishing for bass!!!! :headbang: Ditto on the dark colors....particularly if you are fishing topwater.....they make a much better silhouette.....I also wear a pair of clear safety glasses...... Mike
  9. Welcome aboard! Mike A. :headbang:
  10. Nice ties PR aka FF! I tried the Wii last Xmas....developed a Wiiknee from the bowling...had to give it up.......Whatsup w/the Jeep in the drive? Is that a new toy/project? Happy New Year! Mike
  11. A few years ago, my mother-in-law gave me a small pail full of yellow bobbers w/smiley faces on them from wal-mart.... Mike
  12. Welcome back and congratulations! Mike :headbang:
  13. Good advice! After scraping/boraxing mine, they go in the freezer for a week or two then out to thaw for a couple days then back into the freezer again for a couple of weeks then back out and thaw then in an airtight container w/mothballs.....probably don't need to, but keep them separate from my other materials to play it safe..... Mike
  14. First off, Welcome aboard! Make sure you check out J. Stockard for materials......they are the sponsor of this great website and offer great customer service/prices.......I've never used a Nor-Vice, but from what i have heard, you either love it or hate it......I would do a little research on this site about vices before dropping that kind of money......Everyone has their favorite vice.....maybe during your classes you will have the opportunity to try several different vices.... Good Luck! Mike
  15. I for one enjoyed your post on the Xuron vice.........I still have my original Thompson "A" vice I got back in the mid-late 70's.......After reading your post I think i will have to get one......from the description on the link you gave though, I don't understand the difference between the two models.......to me, they look identical in the pictures.......any insight on that? As far as the cretin posting on your blog....don't let him get to you..... Mike
  16. Hey Will, If it's not too late, put me down for one XXL in Kelly green Thanx! Mike
  17. Welcome aboard! I love Maine as well.....it's on my short list for retirement...... Mike
  18. Welcome! Mike :headbang:
  19. I use GSP as well.....I don't put down a base....after I compress each clump, I put 2 wraps of thread on the hook then lay the next clump, spin, and then pack it in tight.... Mike
  20. Chris Helm is a great source for deer hair....he handpicks his hides and cuts them himself.......I think his website is whitetailflytying.com or something along that line.... Mike
