  1. I now have the cam jaws for my Renzetti Presentation 4000 and the standard screw-type jaws it came with. I'm glad I didn't pay much for the cams (got 'em from a friend). Maybe I'm just used to the old jaws but I don't see a big deal to shout about between them. The old jaws seem more natural to use and they have that patina that comes from lots of use. I'm going to give the new jaws a fair try but might just have them up for sale soon. One stupid question, how should the lever be set up? I can set them to lock by swinging the lever up under the shaft or down, which seems it would be in the tying space. All pictures I have show the jaws without a hook in them so that's no help at all. Thanks, Jack
  2. We all win on this site, some just win a bit more! Thanks for hosting!
  3. I like the babe's that pop up when Hardy Reels are mentioned!
  4. I just gathered up some of my fly boxes to sort and clean them out. I'm disgusted at how many I have. I have some for steelhead and salmon, for dries, for nymphs, for streamers, for bass and bluegill ponds and for salt water. I also have two boxes for barbless hooks only to use in area's that require them. I have been using the Morrell/Orvis soft boxes for a while and am pleased with them. I would really like to get the 3M system for maintaining and storing my flies but the cheap, plastic leaf holder alone is $45.00! Great idea but I have a family to feed! I can't ever see me turning into a Jim Teeny who uses one fly (the Teeny Nymph) in different sizes and colors for everything, including salt water.
  5. Imposter! I bet your real name is John! Just to let you know, according to my older brother I was found under a bush in Korea in the '50's (and mashed potatoes come from clouds!) so I guess that makes me an import. Welcome aboard, Luny Toonz! See 'ya on the New next week! Jack (The Original!)

Reserve a ticket for me. The checks in the mail! Really!
  7. Problem solved! I got tired of whining and called Renzetti. They stopped using the screw I had 9 years ago! Their sending me new ones and if there is slop in the tapped hole after trying the new screw I'm to send the jaws in. I still ain't kicking out 100 beanski's for the cam jaws!
  8. I lived right behind that Big Boy a couple of blocks. Our cruise parties were legendary! Too bad about the Big Boy but we REALLY miss those Maverick burgers! Who would have thought they could squeeze an Art Van's into that space?
  9. Steel, sorry to hear about the job loss. It'll probably work out for the better. Your boss seems like a ---- anyhow! Hey, I hear they tore down the Big Boy on 13 1/2 and Woodward, wassup with that? Building another CVS or Rite-Aid?
  10. It would be neat if more people used 'my controls' to add their location to their profile. It would be a great way to share local fishing information and conditions with neighbors.
  11. BoubouBomber, Neat link! I'd buy that wooden handled part if he sold them! Looks like a great idea. I note he used a flat-head screw to hold the jaws. That would be a quick fix but would require a tool to change positions. A vise of this price shouldn't have us jumping through hoops to make it work right in my opinion. I emailed Renzetti this morning about the problem. As of yet, no reply. The thought of needing Lock-Tite to compensate for sloppy threads and cheap screws on a premium vise just plain old raises my hackles!
  12. I had a kit vise and stepped up to a Griffin with the 'cheezy' o-ring. I found out I like 'cheezy' so much I stepped up to a Renzetti! I think giving Mr. Renzetti his due for coming up with a nice, practical 'true rotary' design for the others to copy is the right thing to do. Others agree with me so much that rumor has it the 'me too' vise makers now have to pay royalties to Renzetti if they use the bent shaft style. It is a cinch to copy and improve on a great design and idea, Renzetti layed the groundwork and others merely copied. You see it all the time in the automotive field.
  13. I have the screw-lock jaws and wonder how to keep the jaws tight to the vise head. The middle thumb-knob that holds the jaws on seems to back out pretty often. What's the fix? (and no, the new cam lock jaws aren't an option!. They're a little too 'rich' for my blood!)

Is there a running total of how much came in?
  15. fishinlk, one area that I have trouble with using the Pentax is in low light. At dusk the pictures aren't the greatest. Sometimes the flash wants to take over which limits the range. When I turn-off the flash the pictures are awful. You might want to study-up on proper low light picture taking with that camera.
  16. I can't give you specifics but I've never worried about room on my Pentax WR-33 and I have half the memory you have. I think I can hold about 256 normal resoultion shots on my 128 meg card. Don't forget, you can delete bad shots and save room if you get despirate. Try the card you have, it's got a ton of space. I'd worry more about battery life. Regular carbon batteries seem to lose their juice awfully quick on that camera. Nickel Metal Hyrdride batteries work great and charge quick. I consider them to be 'must haves'. I done good! That is a fine camera!
  17. What are the float times and distances to and/or from the camp site?
  18. Rod, if the rivers weren't so high and muddy I'd actually have a life and be fishing! I might need a mate to that 10 weight Elite. I'm gonna have a shoot-out with high horsepower 5 weights in the near future specifically for distance casting. I used Bryans' 5 weight Elite in Georgia a month ago and it rocketed the line. So far the contenders are the Elite, Loomis High Linespeed and the TCR. The TCR already has something going against it though, it's a Sage!
  19. That truly is a fine looking fly, John! Tonight I wound both wires at the same time and it worked beautifully! I expected a world of problems but it worked like a charm. Thanks for all the great suggestions! I'm going to tie up some of those Candy Canes! It looks killer!
  20. I'm glad to hear you finally got the issue resolved. I have to say I'm surprised you had a problem with HCO, they sure do seem like straight-up folks! This almost always happens to me though, I've praised people to friends who own or run businesses and get them a job interview and they don't show up or are real dinks if they do get the job. I'm officially out of the referral business, I stink at it!
  21. steeldrifter, I'd like the wires side-by-side so they alternate like a segmented body. The spacing is what is giving me fits. With wires the same diameter the spacing seems critical and to keep a perfect gap seems impossible. I tried a wider wire with a smaller diameter wire layed in the groove it leaves but the durability seems suspect. This is a real puzzle!
  22. I have this idea to make Copper John's with two alternating colors of wire. I have dinked around with tying them and the results are worse than bad. Any and all hints, tips or cheats on making them purdy are highly appreciated. Thanks, Jack
  23. I store mine in little piles in the house and garage. No way I need Mama to get a good count of them!
  24. To clean the rod itself 'Scrubbin' Bubbles' foam spray bathroom cleaner works very well. It lifts the dirt and grime right out of those hard-to-reach spots around the guides. There are many folks who use Pledge furniture spray. I would caution that the rod be spotless before using it or any other wax-type substance or you might just trap the dirt under a nice, shiny, hard to remove finish.
  25. Just came back from an eye-opening time in Pennsylvania and will be making the third annual trip to Montana with a bunch of Michiganders this August then in October a few days hunting albies at the Outer Banks.
