  1. sweet! i have never fished one, how well do they work?
  2. even the late great jack gartside did not charge that much for his hand tied flies. for 15$ i'll tie my own.
  3. i like that set up ! nice modification of the case. necessity is mother of invention (is that right). everyone has there ideal set up. nice job on yours!
  4. i like the briefcase idea, i have the norvise travel pack that is like a briefcase. easy to carry and everything fits.
  5. holes are no problem, you are going to cut it up anyway.
  6. buy it and you will find lots of uses for it. and you can always swap pieces with people on here for other tying stuff
  7. not sure why but i have tried 3 times to post something. any ideas?

  9. actually things might stand out pretty good on a carbon fiber base.. unless you are using black hooks.. i use stainless mostly as i tie a lot of salt water flies..
  10. find a cabinet/custom counter shop.. you can probably get the cutouts from sinks for cheap... maybe even free.. why buy when there are sources locally..
  11. eumer has a tube vise adaptor thats really cheap... i have seen others on the uk ebay site that are full sets for short short money.. shipping might be a little costly.. i bought the full hmh adaptor with all the needles years ago... just really started looking at the tubes recently.. best of luck pete ps i have tied gurglers, clouser minnows and deceivers on tubes.. they work great..
  12. i was just told there is an eyelash yarn that is metallic.. will have to see who makes it ... but if its similar.. that may work.. for a lower cost..
  13. i tie crabs with latch hook yarn, i got 60 bundles of it off ebay for 4.00 plus shipping. i have enough yarn to tie thousands of crabs.. i'll probably never go thru the stuff.. mostly tan. but several other colors too.. amazing what you can do with the stuff..
  14. i saw this great stuff in a european fly tying magazine.. straggle fritz.. theyused it in place of hackle on the belly of a gurgler.. problem here is we can't find it locally? any suggestions for an alternative.. or if perhaps its known by a different name here in the states.. thanks in advance pete
  15. My name is pete.. i have been tying off and on since 95.. i enjoy it alot.. i am not a good caster.. but enjoy fly fishing anyway. i tie mostly on a norvise.. but i have others and have had several other vises in the past.. always willing to help . thanks for allowing me here. pete
  16. i use rubber bands of varying sizes for ribs on nymphs and for legs and claws on crab and crayfish patterns.. i have stripped old electric motors for copper wire for dubbing brushes and rib material on other flys.. you can look all over the house and find things you can use for fly tying.. heck when the wife trims the dogs (bichons).. i grab some of the clippings.. dubs up nice... or can be used an a dubbing brush as the under fur of some of my gurgler patterns.. colors up nice too.. with koolaid.. i look at dollar stores and thrift stores for things i can tie with... the mrs gets aggravated.. i just don't let her see what i am buying.. what she does not know won't hurt me.. lol..
  17. i was on youtube the other day watching some of norms videos.. he says.. if you mount directly to your bench.. or if you choose to make your own mounting board.. he said you can go at 14 to as wide as 18 depending on what flies you are choosing to tie.. some guys even drill multiple holes which will allow them to quickly change it at a later time if you need more space..
  18. i currently have an anvil apex... a pakistani knock off of the thompson a.. and a norvise.. this is my second norvise.. never should have sold the first.. but at the time i needed the money due to a baby.. have had renzetti and a couple of regals.. loved them all for different reasons.. but for productivity and ease of use i will go to the norvise time and time again.. once you get used to the bobbins and the accessories.. (which i am still collecting).. the vise only becomes more and more useful.. its worth every penny.. even if its not as portable as others.. hopefully norm will come up with a weighted base and not a platform like he sells currently.. but on a good note he came up with a c clamp which works very well.. i love the bobbins.. and try the dubbing table.. if you do not use dubbing brushes for your buggers or other flies reconsider.. its super fast and easy.. and durable when you use fine copper wire instead of thread.. watch the videos on you tube.. it will hook you.. litterally.. sic.. lol.. all the best.. pete
  19. i had a regal until recently.. i loved it.. just did not use it much after gettign my norvise.. i got 6/0 hooks in mine.. never tied much below.. 14.. but i know it is capable of tying down to 24. nice vise.. built to last several lifetimes..
