  1. Great job on the fly's and the explination. Very interesting how things can be done different and still come up with a GREAT fly.
  2. Amazing pic I love it. I took some pics of a heard in UT this past summer and caught an albino. I will have to dig it out and post it. It is small cause they were very far away and my 200MM lens wasn't quite enough to get as close as I would have liked but you can deffinately see the albino looking our way. Pretty awesome.
  3. Thanks, I just posted a comment. Your blog is really difficult to navigate for some reason. Very slow to respond to scrolling. I don't know if it has so much content on one page that it is overloading. Do you archive your blog every month or so?
  4. Great looking nymph, that'll catch soem fish for sure.
  5. You deffinately are not the first to use a pom pom as a glow bug. There are a lot of good reasons to do this. Ease of tying I think being number one. Great job.
  6. Does she ever allow you to hold the jar? :wallbash: Walked into that one. :wallbash:
  7. Yeah I need to find a good taxidermist that does birds. This guy seems to only do the big game. you never know though he might do birds and just didn't have any feathers to give me. I will have to ask him.
  8. ok so one guy yesterday brought me two great skins full skins from the head down. He removed the tails seperat and these things are scraped really well. I have tehm sitting with the borax on the skin side and dusted the feathers. My question is what do I do wtih the heck and head? The neck is in tact and not cut or split. What do I do with it?
  9. Thanks I forgot to mention there is even some wild boar in there. The patch of buffalo is nice. He decided to keep two large bufallo pelst that he had in his scraps and a decent fox pelt. I did get some really good smaller fox pieces and a tail. As I trim these to more managable sizes and wash them I will post some close up pics of what everything is. There is so much there it was mind blowing and he was just telling me if I didn't take it he would throw it away. I told him I was going to make him some presentation fly's and mount them in a shadow box or something like that. Any ideas on what I should do for him (he doesn't fish)? And of course I am going to pimp him out. So if you need a taxidermist in the Omaha area let me know I will set you up with this guy.
  10. It is crazy. I called a taxidermist about a month ago and he said he would give me some scraps that he had left over. Check out what he ended up just giving me. There is a mix of different kinds of deer from white tail to mule deer. There is some buffalo in there some fox some elk and some other animal I have never even heard of. I just love this hobby. I also posted on CL that I wanted to get some pheasant skins and one guy gave me two whole pheasant skins he got most of the scrapings off all I am doing is letting them sit with the borax on the to dry them out some more.
  11. Yeah I know we celebrated 17 years in August. I think if I would have had a bag she might have let me get it. Oh well next time. I am going to post pics of what the taxidermist gave me in a minute you will not believe how much deer hair I have now.
  12. At the very least the fur could have been used to add to dubbing.
  13. This is one I made it has sequens on the the front to form a head that should push some water and give this thing some wild movement.
  14. I've been tying for about 40 years and sometimes feel the same way. But that's being too hard on oneself. I remember about 15 years ago I decided to send one of my flies to AK Best. He had a tying contest. Before digital cameras were cheap. Had to send the fly in. Anyway, I forgot all about it. Couple weeks later I received a certificate for first place that week Moral of the story is: you're probably a better tier than you think. Only have to be able to fool the fish You should enter my contest. Tie a Blue Winged Olive Dun pattern and send photo to me: [email protected] Only have to beat a couple others so far Check them out at : flyfishing.blogspot.com Dude your blog is, well , a bit lacking in content. If your going to promote something like that on here at least put something in there that can be useful or at the very least a fun read.
  15. So my wife and I were driving around on Saturday. We came around a corner to a stop sign and right in the middle of the street was a dead racoon. Thing is the fur was in perfect condition. I was almost salivating at the idea of taking this thing home to skin and tan for some good fur for tying. My wife would not allow me to put it in the car. I had to leave a perfectly good racoon on the side of the road. :wallbash: What is wrong with women? I could have had one of the most beutiful pelts I have ever seen for free just a little elbow grease. :ripped: I thought about going back when she wasn't with me in the middle fo the night to nab it but she would still get upset probably if I did that. Plus by now I am sure it is too riddled with bugs to be much good.
  16. I've watched most of Mr Davie McPhail videos and they are great. But I like to see how other people do things and it would be very nice to have these videos from Al as well to watch. The videos on the net is how I have learned to tye. Sometimes at work I like to watch a video on my break but can not get to YouTube from here it is blocked by our firewall and we get a very specific message from the firewall telling us so. I will PM the forum owner do you know how I can find out who that is?
  17. Someone at work gave me a some feather off of the pheasant that he shot this weekend. There are complete wings that he cut off for me. What do I do with them. I have them in the freezer right now. I know Borax is probably what is going to be suggested but do I just completely immerse it in the borax? There isn't a lot of meat that is visable so do I get the borax just all ove the dang wing? Another guy is dropping off some feathers for me as well that he got on the hunt this weekend as well. I don't know what condition those are going to be in but it should be interesting none the less. :yahoo:
  18. Sounds to me like you have a lot of great stuff and at the very least can start making some wooly buggers right away with what you have. I just purchased the christmas box from fly tyers dungeon and you would be a wise man to buy one when he opens the sales up tomorrow to anyone that didn't pre order.
  19. Yeah it is funny how you don't really notice those things till you take a close up picture of them. LOL I will work on it. Thanks for the advice.
  20. Thanks for putting this here Ciccio. I love the pics. Great job!
  21. ^bump^ I think this is important and hopefully someone will read it that can do something about it.
  22. This is a freestyle I tied last night
