  2. Where are my ants! :ripped:<<<<---- glitch!
  3. Hey Johny, I posted pictures for frame of reference so that when we catch the big one, we know who to thank. Perhaps we can all post a picture of our tie with recipe. Nice picture of yours on Page 1. Pictures are off. ><((((º> ♥ avril Avril, Sorry for my attack on your photos, The eye roller kinda wound me up.... If you take the picture more level with the flies, they would come out nicer. . I am always happy to share recipes. Materials Hook- Dry fly Thread- tan Tail- Coq de leon medium pardo Body- Utahs U.V. fox rabbit high test Rib- Gold metallic thread Post- white antron Hackle- Griz
  4. First let me say i am an avid buyer from Jstockard. BUT. White water flies has the best deal on utlra wire bare none. Cant beat free shipping. I mean this guy will mail you a spool of thread for no shipping charge. The Gentleman, is some times a little slow getting things in the mail, but hey its free! P.S. JS Kicks ass.
  5. Additional tip, Float a couple cold ones in there as well......
  6. 1. Grizzly 2. Brown 3. Ginger 4. med. dun 5. black. **6. White. if you want to save coin, buy white and dye feathers as you need them. I do this if a color is not available. Plus buying brown is always a crap shoot, as "Brown" has a wide range. Cree hackle is very nice, but i know the fish dont care. And for the price they go for id rather buy a brown and a grizzly. imho. Hijack- That is crazy! I'm starting to consider selling off my saddles...............
  7. In the case of the bugger body, i would say imho that it makes no difference what the body is made out of. But, with other patterns, certain materials where used for specific reason. Take the LaFontaine sparkle pupa pattern, it calls for tri-lobal antron, He used this material because of its ability to trap air bubbles. On other patterns for intense say a elk hair caddis, you can sub elk for deer, hell moose even works well. As for the body you can dub it or you can opal tinsel it, and its damn effective either way. My point is sometimes a material is vital to the impressionistic nature of the fly and some times just about anything will work. Bottom line is to try it out, and test it thoroughly so you know if its a key ingredient. Remember there your flies, do what you want to them.
  8. What in world did you do to my fly avril???? Did you lick the tails to cause them to clump up, cause i dont tie clumped up tails like that??? It Looks awful in that picture, and i know all my flies looked like the one i pictured back on page 1. Same with dezods ant. Its a fantastic tie but your pick does no justice.
  9. Trout, can not survive in warm water, where as bass and other pan fish, have no issue. Thus why many farm ponds lack trout populations, just to warm for them. You dont hear tails of trout fishing in south florida do you? Same thing with bass, you dont hear tales of people saying yeah Alaska was great, the char and greyling where biting and i got a mess of large mouth also. Salmonids can tolerate a much colder body of water than that of the bass family and vise versa. In NJ there are several stream and rivers that hold trout and have, wild trout populations. Its because these bodies of water remain cold enough to sustain the trout. Now streams that get to warm for trout to hold over, you can bet your vice that they will more than likely be great bass and pan fish locations.
  10. No peacock dubbing is anything like the real thing. If durability is what your worried about with your peacock hurl simply make a dubbing loop and twist the hurls in it. Makes natural peacock bomb proof.
  11. Check out Jstockard, They sell dr slick TC for 27 or 26.
  12. Even more spam. WOW. Skip do you even know what spamming is? Cause you just keep on doing it. Also you say it saves time and thus speeds tying.... yet you do not use this technique when you tie your jigs.... I dont get it. Am i missing something here?
  13. Sorry but what happen to the fast turn around?????? Have the flies been mailed??? Its past the first week in may.
  14. I dont see how this post is not spam. Especially considering you can find skip talking about this dvd and the technique on the web dating back over a year. I will divulge what i know about the technique. Rope dub tech After your thread is attached and positioned where you want your body to start pull out a tear-drop shaped hank of Dub and lightly roll it on the palm of your hand. Tie in the narrow end of the dubbing where only a few fibers extend. Now hang the bobbin in your left hand and stretch out the dubbing alongside the thread for about 2" or so. The more you stretch, the finer or narrower your segments will be. Make sure you don't pull out the fibers that are tied in at the hook- that's your roping anchor. Start spinning the dubbing around the thread with two fingers of each hand, counterclockwise, and just spinning the top portion of the dubbing. The base of the dubbing is tied at the hook, so as you spin the dubbing gets tighter and tighter around the thread. If the end closest to the hook doesn't spin around the thread completely give it a little booster spin with your right hand fingers. It will come along. Continue to spin the dubbing until you can't spin it any more. You should now have a thread surrounded by a slim tapering rope of dubbing. I haven't a clue how this saves times as they claim.
  15. Closed! IT DOESNT MADDA!
  16. I would say that the body of the fly would matter the most in the case of trimming the hackle. I hardly ever use hackle as fur bodies float like cork when treated. If i were tying quill bodies then i use hackle. Imo i dont think hackle makes a fly float any better. Case in point, a elk hair caddis. You can tie them with out the hackle and they float just as well, can be skittered just as well and imo are more effective.
  17. I forgot about this swap. What is going on???/
  18. firefox and now instead of the ad being covered i have the same problem as the rest, my box is covered.
  19. That bobbin looks slick. Is it worth the money? I Just love mt Ottlite, Got it for 40%off at Michaels craft store.. So for the money & 40% off retail price, it's definitely well worth owning one. Worth every penny.
  20. Sweet bobbin there. I love mine.
  21. Keep my extras, no need to send them back.
  22. I would be quite ticked if i was an advertiser and my ad was being covered by the personal box. Like they currently are. I think the format looks nice although, I dont care for the new quote format. Nor do i care for the recent post button being at the bottom of the page. Other than that its a good look and format.
