  4. Well I started to tie this afternoon, about time...right. I want to ship by the 16th. I was kinda freakin' out, when the swap came up I ordered some stuff from a fly shop,I dont have a fly shop around my house for 100 miles,Thay called a few days later and said it was all on back order and it will be to ya in two weeks. So today was two weeks and I got it in the mail, just in time.It will take me a few days to finish them up and ship them out. eastern fly had a good idea about putting an extra top water if no body takes the spot, anyway let me know. Thanks,
  5. You should talk to my buddy Tim at Irideus,He lives up there and is a great fisherman.Look him up irideus.com
  6. Trout fishing is not my main game,I fish for barred surf perch and bass.I live far from any good trout fisheries,I do love the little guys.I got in about 125 days on the water last year.Went up to the sierras twice last year and got in around two weeks of trout fishing.Trout opened up a little over a week ago, went to Big sur and fished two days and hooked up with some nice native coastal rainbows, not big but fun.
  7. That is out of control,um,can I have one? Nice work.
  8. So,you are saying dont try to diy it and spend the cash.I alwawy do that, spend more money, time and headaches bulding three of them just to get the thing to work.anyway, someone might have a good tip,so keep it comeing again thanks.
  9. I need to make a fly rotator for epoxy flies.need a motor, any ideas or pisc of ones made would be great.
  10. pink n white is all right.keep up the good work.
  11. those have to be some of the craziest flies.I would fish them wet and weighted looking for bass.
  12. Lookin' good my man.welcome to the addiction,I mean sport,no I mean addiction, tying and fishing.Great popper bodys, you will rip it up. Keep on chuckin' Bryan 'Salty fly'
  13. so, here are my finished poppers.they look allright for my first ones, thay will get better with time. Fished them this weekend, thay did ok, did hook up with fish on them,so all is well, mostley. Two of them started getting bubbles in the paint/epoxy,I think I did not coat them enough with epoxy.the last two I made I coated better they held up good. The other thing that I saw was some water between the paint and epoxy, mabey it will go away letting it dry out.
  14. Capt. Bob Thanks for the tips.Do you have a good link for the speed nail knot? Its probley on youtube.I have been using perfection loops when make my leaders.I fish the surf also and use the same set up for bulding my leaders.I think I will use the nail knot for connecting my leader to my fly line and bulding my leaders. So, looks like I need to learn A new knot.Again, thanks. 16. So, For over 20 years I have been flyfishing and apparently still can not tie my leader to my flyline. For years I have been useing knotless systems, lately it's been braied mono loops.Well this weekend, camping at Santa Margarita Lake, I hooked into a real pig,I was working at this beast for around an hour, chucking every bug i had at it. Down to my last pattern,I was watching him work around in a circle, eating somthing out of the weeds,I did a little flip, got the bug right in his face he moved for it but no, he backed up and off for a lap.Next time I was ready for him, had my fly right on his nose let it just sit in the mud and weeds,he saw it moved in,still I paused,he came in, I gave just a little twitch to let him know its alive and BAM! It was on he started diveing, gave him some line and got it on the reel and then SNAP.I was like what now, I broke off a fly earler that day, striped all my line in and my fly, leader and mono loop was gone. Now this has happend twice,The shrink wrap that comes it the packs,I dont know if it gets loose or it is just not good.My fly line in new just made it a few weeks ago.Anyway mabey i need to tie new knots or smothing else I dont know.I have tryed to wrap thread and a little drop of zap, insted of the shrink wrap, that seams to work good. Both ways are really strong.I just cant that big old fish ripped off my loop. looks like I am going to try something else. Any thing you guys have would be great. Thanks, Keep on chuckin' Bryan 'salty Fly'
  17. Right on guys, keep it comeing
  18. Shooting heads are the way I go. Being able to roll cast, water load and then fire off 70ft. fairley eazy, with double haul even more. The wind comes up alot too,so a good side arm cast, low over the water, zing it out there. So, shooting heads, for me,yes sir.
  19. Haveing a bunch of pretied and twisted, all ready to go sounds good to me,thats a great tip. I will give that a try.
  20. Here are some bodys that I made last night,so far thay have one sanded coat of epoxy thinned with isopropyl alcohol, 70% thats all I could find. Great tip by catmanclark ,thanks. Now the first coat of epoxy is on, it has been sanded smooth.I am ready for the first coat of paint. The last group of poppers I made, I painted them with Testors enamel.I hear some guys say enamel and some acrylic,I guess it's what you like, ya like.I have to put in all this hard work, painting them all nice, dressing up with fur and feathers and flashy stuff, just so I can get them all chewed up by big fish. Thanks Keep on chuckin' Bryan a.k.a. 'Salty flt'
