  4. We don't get much snow in West Tennessee, so when we do the whole city pretty much shuts down. I was already off from work today, so after school this morning I got to tie some up and here's a sample. Comments/critiques welcome! Thanks, Terry
  5. I've been trying to come up with an idea for a fly version of a plastic worm. I never thought of doing a hybrid, though. Nice job!!! Terry
  6. I was thinking about this the other day while casting a crawfish fly, not really fishing, just seeing how well I could cast it. There is a product called "Spike It" used for dying soft plastic baits and it has a heavy garlic scent. It comes in several colors, though all I have is chartreuse. I was thinking I could dip the claws of my craw fly in the dye like I might a plastic one, but I decided it would be too messy with the rabbit strips. So, no, as of yet I haven't doped any flys, just thought about it.
  7. Cool. Thanks. It seemed too simple that way, so I figured I would make sure . Damn engineering school.

  9. Ok, swap rookie question :dunno: What's the best way to do the toe tags for the flies? I figure I'll print them out with Excel or Word, but how do you attach them?

  11. I appreciate all of your responses, even the ones waaaay up north. Fishy, I hope to get up there sometime, but work and school are going on now, so it'll be hard til the summer. Mike, if you're interested, I could probably pull off a weekend day trip to your neck of the woods or somewhere between us. I'll keep the rest of you in mind if I ever get up that way. Remember, if you come this way you can look me up, too. There's got to be someone else from the Memphis area that posts on here :dunno: . Maybe they just have more time to fish than to talk/post about it. Thanks again, Terry
  12. Hey guys, I'm in Memphis, TN. Is anyone close to me? I need someone to go fishing with. Any takers? I saw the response that Ashby got from his post of the same title, so I figured I'd try it, too. Take care, Terry
  13. Sorry I haven't gotten mine out yet. Still got a couple more to do, then they're off. They look great so far. I hope mine pass muster !! Terry
  14. That's a killer looking mouse!! Great job!!
  15. That's wild!! Anyone know what kind of fish those are? Sounds like he was speaking Spanish to me, but I'm not sure. I'd like to know what kind of fish those are, though, so if anyone can make it out please post it.
  16. I received my pin Monday as well. It's a really cool "Steelhead Hammer" tied by tdeyette. Looks like it's woven on there and I am absolutely amazed!! Thanks, Tom, for such a cool pin. Thank you, Russ, for putting this all together.
  17. I have 5 more to do, but I am still out of hooks. Rat Bastards at Bass Pro Shop left my hooks out of the bag . I'll have them done before the week's out, so go ahead and send your address, please. Thanks, Terry
  18. Hey, I must be doing something wrong because this thing won't let me vote . Anyway, pound for pound, the bluegill wins, but I would rather catch a bass (large or small mouth) any day. Still haven't gotten a smallie on the fly, but I will as soon as I convince someone with a bass rig to let me fly rod off of it or I find somewhere close to stalk them from the bank or wading. Too hot here in Memphis, but the Tennessee River is pretty good smallie water.
  19. Ooh ooh, can I play, too? :hyst: Let's get it on, or shall we skip ahead to Miller time and raise a glass?
  20. How about replacing the blue feather with blue krystal flash or something similar?

    My New Rod

I already posted this on the Talk Fly Fishing forum, but I felt so good about it I thought I'd put it here, too. Hope that's all right!?? I was going to Bass Pro Shop today to pick up some tying materials for the Clouser swap I am in with some of you. I got a little money and a gift card for BPS for Christmas that I designated as the new rod fund, so since I got their big sale paper in the mail today, I thought I might just bring that along just in case. When I got to BPS and went to the fly shop, I was amazed to find the St Croix Avid rods for about half-price! They were marked at $220, but marked down to $130. I wanted a Temple Fork rod, but it cost more so I had a dilemma. Also, the cost of rod/reel/line etc. was going to exceed the fund by quite a bit. Anyway, to make a short story long, my wife talked me into buying the St Croix rod. So, while the guy is setting up my line and backing on my reel, my wife starts loading more tying stuff into my basket. When I looked at her like she had two heads, her reply was "I just think you need some of this stuff, it's pretty." So, I got what I think is going to be a kick-butt rod (9' 8wt, 3 pcs.), with a reel and a case, at a pretty good price, with the wife's blessing (heck, she insisted ) along with some new, bonus, "pretty", tying materials. What a woman !!!
  22. I ran out of hooks and eyes. I'll finish mine up and send them as soon as I can get to the store.
  23. I thought about getting some of those. How well do they work? I got a pack from Walgreens. I haven't found the double edgers anywhere else.
