  1. Fantastic! Love to see young folks taking an interest in flyfishing & tying. You get my vote for Teacher of the Year.
  2. Change in plans. Looks like my wife's Aunt made it thru the weekend, so the funeral is expected to be next weekend. I'll be in town and able to get to Mason after all. Looking forward to meeting some of you charcaters. I'll take the chance to visit my brother in my home town of Wacousta(8 out of 10 Lansing/Mason residents don't know where that is)
  3. Have been planning on being there, but plans sometimes take a turn at the last minute. My wife's Aunt, mostly her only family, is in the last days of a fight with cancer. My wife flew out there (Virginia) Thanksgiving eve, and came back Saturday. Looks like it is going to happen in the next couple of days, so we'll most likely be going to Virginia within a few days. Family first, that's what's important.
  4. Very good looking fly. Agree with others, maybe a little longer body and shuck BUT that fly will catch plenty of fish. Very nice job on a great pattern. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
  5. Got mine today! Even the wife was impressed; great bunch of ties folks. Thanks to everyone and Pickenofem for hosting. Great job! :headbang:
  6. Good Grief! What can you say about a fish like that? Wonder if they got him on a Hare's Ear Nymph?
  7. PM the addy please, finally got 'er done
  8. Good looking fly. After I saw it, I tied up a few. First couple looked kind of odd, but the rest turned out just fine. I'll give them a tryout this spring. Thanks
  9. Good point about Thanksgiving. Whatever you want to do picken6ofem
  10. Thanks for picking this one up. I'll do a Double Hackle Beadhead.
  11. I'm having a real difficult time finding small balsa rod for McMurrey Ant bodies. Anyone have a source for this? Thought any hobby store would carry it, but not around here. Thanks
  12. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving with your families and friends.
  13. HEY, HEY, CAN I STILL GET IN ON THIS ONE ???? My doctor says this is the best thing I could do (not really, but I'm pretty sure that will ensure me a spot in this one).
  14. That's great! Thanks for hosting the swap. Never had been in one before, but think i'm hooked, I'm in 4 right now. Haven't gone thru so much material in so short a time in a long time. Thanks again, great job.
  15. anybody have any experience with this one. relatively new. Not waterproof, but I hardly ever find myself underwater these days. Just wondering about the "super-macro" function.
  16. Steeldrifter makes a good point. As with any sport, flyfishing depends on getting youth interested to keep it going. If you can interest a kid in flyfishing, even if it's just answering questions from someone who approaches you while you're blasting 'gills at the local pond, do it. There are still remnants of this snobbish reputation we seem to have picked up over the years. Unfortunantly, there are still some flyfisherman who insist on keeping the sport a "mystery" and seemingly unreachable to the "ordinary" person. I'm done, I'll sit down now.
  17. Plus I can use that little mirror in the top to help get the part straight in my rugged looking wind-blown hair.
  18. Thanks for the shove in that direction, looks like a couple of those could find a place on my tying desk. I use a couple of those plastic drawer cabinets, too, and have been looking for something with a little more grace.
  19. Welcome Gary. If you've been listening in, you know there is a wealth of info bouncing all over the place here. Make yourself comfortable, and don't be shy about asking questions or throwing in your 2 cents worth. I've been tying for a many years, and always find some new idea or technique here.
  20. Welcome to the site, Don. I'm sure you'll find lots of info here. There are quite a few Canadian folks on this site, and I'm sure you'll be hearing from them.
  21. I think I'm starting to see a pattern here. I'll have to agree with everyone who says get an inexpensive vise first, see if you really like tying, then you can upgrade. After all, the main function of any vise, whether it's a $7 Cabela's thompson type or a $650 whiz-bang special with electric start and water cooled jaws, is to hold a hook while you slap feathers and stuff on it. You may find that tying doesn't float your boat like you thought it would (that doesn't make you a bad boy) and you haven't spent an arm and a leg for equipment. I started with a cheapie thompson A years ago, found what I liked in a vise after some experience, and settled on a true rotary.
  22. I agree with oatka. I think you did the right thing. Nobody has the right to treat a woman like that. In my younger days I always carried a can of whoop-ass in my back pocket for just such occasions. In my old age, though, I stay true to the saying "the bigger they are, the harder they hit".
  23. OH MY GOD !!! I went to school with those guys. They later went on to become famous as Click & Clack on the program "Car Talk" on PBS.
