  1. You need to talk about how much money you 'saved' because it was on sale. They understand that. Bamboo
  2. I switched over to ceramic bobbins a few years ago. I'd never go back! Bamboo
  3. OK, we're full. wcoutfitter busterwolfe muskyonthefly atroutbum2 daryn smith bassbitter74 baitwaister smokymountainstonefly bamboo Each of you need to tie up a total of 16 flies (8-Hopper, 8-Dropper) with a deadline of April 1. Looking forward to seeing these! Bamboo
  4. Looking like a nice assortment of flies in this bunch. I'm planning a Stimulator and Pheasant Tail. wcoutfitter busterwolfe muskyonthefly atroutbum2 daryn smith bassbitter74 baitwaister Just one slot left. -Bamboo
  5. Tim- Depends on what you're trying to do and opinions will vary. I use a fine dubbing and very light wax on drys to get a nice tight body. On nymphs, I'm looking for more of a ragged loop so won't bother too much with wax. Although there are some dubbings that just require wax to get any kind of adhesion to the thread. Might want to look into dubbing loops - this can help with real subborn dubbing. Bamboo
  6. Al- When you say 'opposite side of the bend', do you mean the outside of the bend? Bamboo
  7. Half way there... So far: wcoutfitter busterwolfe muskyonthefly atroutbum2 4 more slots. Bamboo
  8. It doesn't have to be a hopper but how about tying up you're favorite topwater/subsurface tandem setup. Instead of everyone getting one fly from each participant, everyone will receive the pair of flies from each. Let's limit this to 8 participants (16 flies) with an April 1st due date. And, please attach both to the same toe tag for easier sorting. First 8 with 'I'm in'.... Bamboo
  9. I wish I could get by with smoking a cigar in the house! My wife is pretty good about most things but that would send her over the edge. Bamboo
  10. I don't wait for Friday! I think 2 glasses of wine is the minimum daily requirement. Bamboo
  11. OSD- Put mine in the mailbox this evening. #14 Dk. Hendrickson Comparadun. Bamboo
  12. Check out "Drift Boat Fly Fishing", Neale Streeks. All you ever wanted to know and more. Bamboo
  13. The CD I was just listening to while tying has everything... Big Head Todd, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Marvin Gaye, The Wallflowers. Tomorrow it may be Vivaldi. I like it all! Bamboo
  14. I like that embedded glass bead idea. Amazing what you can pick up here! Bamboo
  15. Nice fly! Good looking head, didn't crowd the eye... Doesn't look like my first! Bamboo
  16. Like others have said, it's a good technique for fattening up the body where needed. I primarily use this method to establish the correct taper with (dubbing slightly lighter than the biot) then just wind the biot over that. Bamboo
  17. Not really. 'Black Wooly bugger with the rubber legs' suits me just fine. Bamboo
  18. Nice! Looks like another 'gotta-have'. Bamboo
  19. Whew! I had a set lost a few years ago so I always worry a bit. Bamboo
  20. TT- Should have received mine by now. If you don't get them this week, let me know and I'll tie up another dozen. Bamboo

    Dry fly 2

If there's still room, I'm in. Part 1 was so much fun, why miss part 2! Bamboo
  22. Looks like a Fishy Fulum fly. Is that the book you used for a pattern? I watched him tie some ants this style at a show and he built the body with foam and then used the epoxy to form a 'shell' of sorts around the foam. Nice looking flies but haven't tried my hand at it yet. Bamboo
  23. I think they're great for emerger wings. I also will use them for under-wings on EHC. Bamboo
  24. Can't say enough good things about these flies. Fantastic job everyone and congratulations to all the winners. Bamboo

    Green Mountain

Orvis used to market the Green Mountain Series that was their beginner outfit. Maybe they're bringing that line back? It's what I started with and was pretty good stuff. Bamboo
