  1. I got an old letter desk for my birthday that was converted into my fly tying desk for in the living room. My Old desk was in the spare room. They are really nice I think you will like it a lot. It is a process moving in though. You realize how many materials you have!
  2. Yea I like the upper photo and agree on using something different for the wing post. I like the tailing material better in the upper photo as well. Id be happy to fish the one in the upper photo as I'm sure it would do well, maybe modify the thorax area like you said.. Crackaig has a nice pattern and suggestions.
  3. He will never know it but that man taught me how to tie flies through his videos... I'm sure I'm one of the many.
  4. Yea I use peacock and I also have some of that prism dubbing that I use in black. Has a nice look
  5. It's funny I've been killing some time tonight and reorganizing some fly boxes... In doing so I have come across some of the flies I tied from when I first started tying. They are pretty bad and what's even better is those were the ones that made the cut to get into the fly box.... Haha for every one that made it in there were probably 3 that got bladed!
  6. Great lookin ants, I had some great fishing this past summer/fall with a parachute any pattern
  7. Neat thread thanks for posting, i didn't even notice a photography section either, guess I'll start looking in there too
  8. I agree... "we prefer five wraps"
  9. I use lock tite super glue with the brush when I'm in need to glue and Sally Hansen hard as nails for head cement
  10. I've been wanting one myself for awhile, my brother builds furniture so I think we might get together and build something neat. Awesome set up
  11. I tie a lot of my wets with India hen capes and like the turn out
  12. All good and accurate feed back on the fly, also to stop that hackle from kicking back on you when you first start your wraps... Start by wrapping some bare stem first, and come to the hackle as you wind. Don't start winding the hackle with the thread right up to the barbules... Hope that makes sense, sometimes to get rid of them you can pluck them out with your hackle pliers vs cutting them with sisscors as it makes for a cleaner fly. Great start for sure though!
  13. Charlie boy hopper transfers decent to a smaller hook.
  14. Ever caught a fish on that thingamabobber? When I fish hopper dropper in the summer I fish the hopper, the nymph is nothing more than something dragging behind and I probably catch more than half of my fish on the nymph!
  15. Love a hopper pattern myself for the indicator. I fish a hopper dropper almost exclusively all summer. Spring is a different story, usually use just some kind of dun pattern that is hatching and drop an emerger or nymph off the back.
  16. I use them as well, love biots they have a lot of uses
  17. I feel like I can tie anything I want and do it pretty well. I am overly hard on my work and so many times take a razor blade to fly that would have no problem catching fish but doesn't suit me for one reason or other. Makes me a better tier
  18. Great idea, I have a spool of white that I color a lot
  19. Is it ok to use only thread for bodies on small flies/ wets? Uni lays flat and forms a smooth body but not sure if its durable enough to last more than a fish or two...would coating it with Sally Hanson work?
  20. My goal is to learn to tie more wet flies/soft hackles and learn to fish them!
  21. Yea me too is this a trick question
  22. If its summer time, my go to is a variety of hopper patterns. Can beat it they are easy to see and fish hammer them
