  1. Well, it is getting to be that time of year here in east Tennessee. The nights are getting cooler. Some of the leaves are showing a hint of the colors yet to come. The stores are stocking up with Halloween and Christmas decorations and just about everything in available in pumpkin spiced. Fall is approaching and that means the season of the midge is right around the corner on our tailwaters. Many a 20"+ fish will be falling to a size 20 in the coming months. You can choose any midge pattern you'd like with one stipulation, it must be tied on a size 20 or smaller hook. It can be as simple as a zebra midge or as complicated as some of the things planettrout and Kimo post on the monthly threads. General swap rules apply. You must toe tag, send in a crush proof box, and include a pre-paid return envelope or money for return shipping. Taking the first 12 tiers to reply. Due date will be 31 October 2016. SM - jd1983 - deep blue poison tung 1. 2. I don't like being told I'm wrong either.
  3. I have also used coupon codes to purchase multiple fly fishing name brands (Redington, Sage) from Sierra Trading Post with no issues. You can usually check if the coupon code works for whatever you are looking at on there.
  4. I don't think the hackle is overly long, maybe just a touch, but you did wrap too far down the hook for a traditional north country spider. The thread should stop somewhere between the barb and the hook point (I'll let the more knowledgable weigh in on exactly where though). I can't decide if I am a fan of the wire rib or not. If I were to tie it and wanted a rib, I'd probably lean towards flat tinsel to keep the profile slim. If you do use wire, tie it off further back so you don't have it protruding from the front of your wraps.
  5. I would say you don't have enough light and the camera needs to zoom in some. Also, the background could use some work as it is clear you have a couple pieces of foam sitting on a pile of books.
  6. zip, a size 14 bwo is enormous. I fish sz 18 - 22 BWO dries year round so I'm guessing you are thinking sulphurs. The big sulphurs (sz 14 - 16) are done but the smaller sulphurs/PMDs are around but tailing off. People are using sz 16 - 18 nymphs and dries if they are hitting them. It has mostly switched to a subsurface game for me as I am out in the mornings for the most part.
  7. You'll be about an hour east of the Caney Fork and an hour west of the Clinch, both of which are known for trout.
  8. Those lines were on sale for the same price back when the Shark Wave thread started. I picked up type III in 7 wt for $7.88 and also got a Teeny T-200 they were selling for $14.88.
  9. How can you say something is statistically insignificant without any data or significance testing? I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree here.
  10. I did read the post and I'm saying neither of these assumptions are good assumptions. At a given time, within a species, you are likely to have individuals with differing abilities. Some of the less fit individuals may even live for a long time but they may not be as successful at passing on their genetic material. To say within a species all individuals present at the same time are equal seems like a logical fallacy.
  11. Cold - Individuals within a population do not have the same sensory capabilities across the board. That's part of why some survive and some don't.
  12. So, PJ is technically not supposed to be hosting this swap as he has another currently in progress. I did not realize that when I signed up. Given that and the lack of communication, I am going to remove myself from the swap.
  13. I went ahead and sent a quick message to steeldrifter to see if he has heard anything. I know the due date is a little way off but it is unusual for a SM to not keep up with their swap.
  14. I would say no one send flies until we hear what is going on. PJ hasn't been on the site since the 21st, so who knows. Let's hope it was an unexpected vacation or a forgotten fishing trip.
  15. Again, just posting an opinion, but if you are making a video to show a specific fly, I feel that is should be tied as it was originally or deviations should be noted and explained. The originators have reasons they use the materials they do to make the fly behave a certain way. This is part of the reason Tightlines Productions are my go to source for videos. I'd rather learn to tie the actual pattern and then make changes myself after mastering it than think I'm learning something I'm not. A little tough professional criticism - I stopped watching your videos a while ago for a number of reasons, including things you are displaying on this thread. There are times when I'm not completely sure you know about the flies you put up. Then, when someone questions what was done it seems to be taken overly personally. Criticism is hard to take, especially if it seems too personal or unwarranted. No one likes handling criticism but everyone controls how they respond to it and how they carry themselves. Even your biggest critiques on here could turn into allies if you handle critique well. We are all passionate about tying and many are connected to big fishing/conservation organizations or are on social media where your product could be shared. Just something to remember as you continue to build your site.
  16. For everyone not familiar with the place, those photos are from opening day and don't represent the rest of the year well. Bennett Springs is a put-and-take trout park. The water there is a spring fed stream, not a tailwater but they carry over fish through the fall and winter. The whole stream stretch is accessible and there are different sections that have different regulations; fly only, fly and lure only, bait only. The MO trout parks are fun to fish and can be challenging at times.
  17. Glad to see so many making it to their homes so fast. Bob - My part of the world has two major "sulphurs". E. dorothea are also called pale evening duns. They are smaller and pale yellow and get lumped with sulphurs. I feel like most people think E. invariens when they talk sulphurs in this region which are the bigger, bright yellow mayflies.
  18. I'll get in. One mallard shrimp
  19. vicrider - big ol' winged sulphurs
  20. stabgnid - sulphur crackleback
