  1. Steve, Awesome first fly. No doubt it will snag a nice fish on the tailwaters. One of my favorite flies, the Zebra, is a variation of what you've got here. Just use a silver bead, silver wire, and black thread. I don't go fishing without one!
  2. I'd go with the BPS waders if I had a gift certificate. However, felt bottom boots are a must for most wading. Chota sells a decent pair, but I'm sure you can get some a BPS.
  3. Looks great! I recommend Skip Morris's book or DVD called "Fly Tying Made Clear and Simple." It is a great book that teaches the basic skills you need to tie along with flies that help you practice those skill. It's well worth the investment!
  4. How do you fish that dude? lol
  5. Hey vicrider, This really is a great area... We actually pastor a church in Gray! When you get back in the area shoot me a note and we'll try to get together. The tailwaters are amazing. We'll have a blast.
  6. Welcome to the forum! You've picked a great place to learn about all things fly tying...and even fly fishing. As far as getting a kit, if you want to tie, I recommend getting a decent rotary vice to start with. You may spend a bit extra, but it'll be worth it in the long run. I bit the bullet and got a Renzetti Travel vice right off the bat, I'm still using it 14 years later! Enjoy!
  7. Cool...I'm glad I don't live in Eliz, I'd never get anything done, there's too many great fishing spots. BL
  8. You get what you pay for. The HMH utyer mentioned would be great! Personally, I'm a Renzetti Traveler fan. Good luck!
  9. Oh wow, we need to get connected and I can show you some great spots. The Weir is not a bad place though, but it's fished really heavy. Ever fished Watauga? My son and I caught around 150 fish there two weeks ago. They averaged around 10-12 inches. I enjoy tying nearly as much as fishing. I'm in the process of moving right now so my vice is not set up and I'm having to buy flies...it's killing me! LOL
  10. Hey phg, I'm just fishing to see if there's anybody on the forum close by. My son is in high school and I'd enjoy some company when he can't go.
  11. Hey Steve617, I'm in JBoro. I frequent the EFO fly shop in Piney Flats! I was just curious if there was anybody on the forum that lived around here. My son and I fish the Watauga all the time. I love the SOHO as well. I love the mountain streams too. We got great water here!
  12. Hello all! I was curious if there was anybody on the forum from the Tri Cities area in East TN.
  13. I won't go fishing without a Zebra! Great fly to start with. I'm partial to the beadhead version, but they are both great. Tight lines! Preach
  14. Hey steeldrifter, I think we swapped flies a time or two. Yo Will...I am doing great. Living in Ireland now, in the Dublin area. Trying to scout out the best fishing holes. Looks like the site is going strong! Man I'd love to have the 2009 Hatches, got any left? Good to be back! Bobby
  15. I just moved from the USA to Ireland and was wondering if there were any flyfishermen from the Dublin area on the forum. If so, send me a message...I need to find out where to fish around here!
