  1. Nice video just watched it. I really like the animation even though at times it felt a bit like filler. Nice shots of people tying full dressed flies.
  2. This is such a great story. Thanks to every one who thinks the way you do Steeldrifter. Great work on the rod! Also thank you Tyler for your service.
  3. Recieved my flies a few days ago. It really is crazy good they all look giving the randomness of the materials. Thanks everyone for taking part in this awesome swap.
  4. Congrats it's one on my bucket list to. I am hoping to cross it off this summer.
  5. I was there last week on Tuesday. It was great lots of fish. I ended up going to Cheeseman canyon. Lots of bites no fish. I took a rough fall on some of granite up there and broke my rod. But cabelas warranted it no problem. I was think of going out a couple times next week Tuesday for sure.
  6. I find this a very intresting idea. I fished a lot of west coast surf and this looks like something that might work well for that application. There is a really need to get down quick and I never found a sink tip that sunk fast enough for me. I settled on 20ft of Cortland LC-13 which is a lead core line pretty heavy and works well. I might build one of yours to see if I could get down even quicker.
  7. I have been fishing bear a lot the last month it is fishing great. If you want I would meet up to fish tomorrow (Thursday). Sorry did not see this sooner.
  8. Yes I was thinking you would start with solid rod stock. If you chose stock that is slightly larger then your largest diameter then it should be a quick turn down to get your diameters. You could so do things like cone heads to so it would be quite versatile after you learn the setup.
  9. My immediate thought would be to by a micro lathe and turn them your self. It would give you a lot of control over the final product. You could also do other metals instead of lead. It would be simpler then making four molds for all the sizes.
  10. I would love to see all the flies so far. Can't wait to see all of the creativity.
  11. Went to Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday. It was a hard day but super fun. Got in to two browns that were in the 13-14 inch range. It was great.
  12. I have a TFO Finesse 3wt 8'6" which I love. It is longer then what you want but I believe they make it in a 7' something. I fish with it a couple of times a week and can't recommend it enough.
  13. Flies are in the mail today. Let me know when you get the. PS I had to drop extra stamps in the envelope for you. So keep an eye out for them when you open the package.
  14. It is denifently a calico or kelp bass. They are great fun on a fly rod if you get a chance to ever try that. It is very common to fly fish the surf down there and really fun. If you have any question about set up or flies I would be happy to answears them.
  15. I have made this choice both directions. A lot of times I will start with an under size fly as a searcher to try and locate fish. Then if I find them then I size up if I feel I can catch something larger. I will also increase size based on water conditions to help fish see the fly easier. This applies to current in the water as well. I always found it effective to change sizes up or down as needed.
  16. Glad you are all satisfied. I thought they came out great. I would be interested to know how they work in fresh water.
  17. I am a huge inflatable craft guy. I love float tubes. Pontoon boats are great but they are a little more work to deal with. In the past I have used float tubes a lot in salt water. Mostly down in San Deigo in mission bay to fish for spotted bass. I like float tubes for bays a lot because there is not a lot on them that rust so they last a long time in salt water. My pontoon will be used a lot now that I have moved to Colorado. I own a fish cat tube and a Creek Company pontoon. Both have there place and I really do enjoy using both. If you want a tube that will last I would highly recommend the fish cat. I have dragged, carried and just general used heavily. I have taking it down small rapids carried, it into the backcountry and used it in the ocean. If I had to chose one I would lean towards the float tube. Easy to store, setup and carry fairly long distances. But it all depends on what your looking for and how you will use it.
