  1. anyone have any experiance with this reel? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=23818 my primary steelhead outfit is a 8wt sage with a 8wt harris reel but it may be a tad heavy for some of the trips i'm planning so i'm lookin to go with a 6/7wt rod and a real that suits that size rod. dont know much about this "fly logic" series so would like some feedback on them if poss? thanks! SD
  2. Thanks fellas i'm bouncin around on rod building websites right now, good suggestion on a book OSD i think i'll check out that so i know what i'm getting myself into before i start buying equipment. Steveo' i'll catch ya on IM later tonight and i'm sure i'll have some questions about building for ya! SD
  3. Thanks OSD i guess my biggest question right off the bat is what equipment would i need to build one? i dont know much about the subject but i know i have seen the stands with the rollers that are used (not sure what they are called?) and wondered what else is needed? Any exeprianced info you can offer me would be greatly appreciated SD
  4. Very cool i see some flies that i will be taking to PA with us Thanks for hosting and doing a great job on putting together this first swap for the site OSD SD
  5. Have you started building yet? any helpful info? SD
  6. Anyone build their own rods? i have been considering building my own for awhile now and think i might give it a shot after the holidays. What i want to build is a 10' 7wt rod for steelhead,i had the winston IBS 10' 7wt and like a dumbass i sold it so i want to build something along the same lines as that rod. Just wondered how difficult it is to build one, what equipment is needed and how the cost of building compares to the cost of buying new. SD
  7. Those are very creative John, very nice! As creative as those are i expect to see some "miniature lights" on next years tree fly SD
  8. Dan trust me i know how you feel,i lost my grandpa and my dad both within the last 7 years (dad in 96' to cancer & grandad in 98' to heart attack) and i have a few things of each of theirs that i hold very close to my heart. I have some fishing equipment and also a watch and pocket knives of their and if i lost anything then i'd be very hurt becuase of it,i guess from the sounds of it you already know what i'm about to tell you but i'll just say it anyway. If your grandpa was anything like mine or my dad then you dont need a small plastic box to feel close to him....everytime you are in the great outdoors and fish a river that maybe you and him fished together you are just that much closer to him and theres nothing of material value that can take that special bond away. So keep looking for it dan,but dont be to hard on yourself over it....i'm sure he would understand things happen. SD
  9. Yupp i just watched the presidents news confrence,to be honest i figured if they ever did find him then he would probaly take his own life before we got to him. Well he was found in a hole alive and with a handgun on him but didnt use it to kill himself, instead he surrendered to our forces knowing that he will be tried and executed but trying to prolong his own life....just goes to show what a coward he really his. I think this is great timimg with christmas right around the corner.....what better gift could you give our soliders and the familys that lost loved ones in this continuing battle. to all the men&women in the armed forces that have put their lives on the line to tryin keep americans safe........ May god bless you...this is a HUGE goal in the operation and they should be thanked by all who enjoy our freedoms! Steve
  10. Glad to hear ya got some grayson. SD

  13. Thats really something HDS how long did it take you to land them on that light rod? i've only caught a few carp before (nothing over 3#) but i have got a decent number of bofin that were around the size of the one in your pic and i know i have fought them for a good 15mins or more on a 10'6" spinning rod with 6#. SD
  14. Thats the same problem i had with it pacres i still need help with my deer hair but one thing that make a difference for me was using 2 "clumps" of hair instead of trying to get it all on the hook in one clump. as i said i havent quite got it down pat yet but that deff. helped to make the heads fuller. SD

  21. big daddy santa hubbard............. Twas the night before Christmas and all through the shack not a critter was stirrin' 'cept the lice on his back. The skoal cans wuz nailed to the screen door with care, with hopes that st.hubbard would soon be there. the youngins were sleepin all snug in their beds while visions of tractor pulls danced in their heads. and ma in her nightgown all stained with pound cake had just settled down to watch ricki lake. when out in the driveway a loud noise i heard, i opened the winder ta check muh t-bird i ran to the door like i's on a mission, but tripped on some parts from ma grannys transmission. The moon shone outside, the hound dog wuz barkin' muh daughter werent' home yet she wuz still out parkin. When what to muh wiskey blind eyes did i see but a Chevy S-10 pulled by 8 tiny sheep. with a big ugly driver that stammered and studdered i said oh ma god here comes ol' saint hubbard! more rapid than x-lax his wool sheep came and he belched an he hollered and he called em by name now CLIFFORD! NOW VERNON! NOW LESTER AND ENUS! ON FESTUS!ON ELMER ON ROSCOE AND CLETUS! from the top of the shack to them there garbage bins now dash away dash away! dash away youngins! i heard a loud sound on the roof of muh shack i put down muh beer and went fer muh gun rack. he fell through muh roof and nearly fell on muh dog i swear ol' st.hubbard looked just like boss hogg! he wore a t-shirt,rebel flag on the front and his jeans were all bloody from that mornings duck hunt a big nakkid lady tattoed on his arm he wore black boots that he picked up in nam. His eyes how they glazed from too much wild turkey from the side of his mouth hung a stick of beef jerky. a scar on his cheek from a fight with the cops the veins in his face looked ready to pop. the butt of a camel clung to his lip, he wore a hip pack full of B-B-Q chips he was gap toothed and dumb with a I.Q of three, i laughed cuz i knew that redneck was smater than me. a wink of his eye,a fierce shake of his head, from his hair came a rat that ran under the bed. He reached in his sack, sipped his gin and tonic, Then filled the kids stocking with hooked on phonics. His toys came from big lots and werent very nice, but he had lots of them and ya cant beat the price. he gave us some crisco, some spam, and some cream pies, and a nascar t-shirt in tripleX size. when the presents were gone and he had no more, he swigged the wild turkey and fell through muh screen door. He hopped in his truck and to his sheep he gave the order, now on ya damn sheep ta the ohio boarder! back in ohio smalliehunter was sleepin all snug in his bed, unaware st.hubbard was comin just like ol' SD had said! SD
  22. wow that egg is so semetrical i thought it had to be a pom-pom,very nice egg OSD i'm tying some tonight so i'll give it a try with the pen trick. thanks for helping. SD
  23. should have some decent tying time set aside for tonight.....will be tying some more stones and caddis along with some small brown buggers and doing some of OSD' OD eggs that have the tail on them, all for the upcoming trip. SD
  24. OSD i also really like the idea of a tail on the egg...i have a question,i know you can use both yarn or a "pom-pom" for the egg but if you use the pom-pom do you just push the pom-pom all the way to the eye and then tie the tail and slide it back over the tail? just wondered because the one in the pic looks like it might be a pom-pom and i want to tie some before the trip. SD
  25. QUOTE (Shoe @ Dec 13 2003, 08:19 AM) Be firm and make sure he's in a submissive position when you do it. (something like grabbing him by the scruff or laying him in his back and grab his neck.) It's very important that he realizes that you are the authority and feathers are bad. Slap him when you're done, give him something that's his, like a chew toy or squeeky and ignore him for a while. He will associate the smell with something negative. Good luck Shoe..... that one's just way to easy to get you on.......i'm not even touching that paragraph,to easy! Yeah i used to have a cat that would come runnin through the living room every once in awhile with a $40-50 hackel in his mouth now i dont let the pets into the tying room.
