    Adams

OSD we already have some of the adams family......big daddy hubbard looks like uncle fiester to me Seriously though thats a nice adams you submitted and i honestly dont think there has ever been a time in the last 15 years that i havent' had a adams pattern in my fly box,its the "meat&potatoes" of a fly box. Nice addition! Steve
  7. Derek there are alot of bowfin in the great lakes and all its tributaries and i dont know much about their spawning habits but from what has been said about them so far i'd say coming into a shallower channel or lake to spawn sounds like a good possability. And yeah alot of people use the slang term "dogfish" for bowfin so thats what the old guys were talking about. Bowfin seem to inhabit almost any body of water if you ask me,just last year i was standing at the dam in mio getting ready to suit up for some trout fishing when i looked down and saw a large fish in the shallows 5'off shore. After going down to the rocks on shore for a closer look i then saw the "undilation" of the fin the gos across the bowfins back. This was in the "trophy waters" of the au sable in mio which is a "coldwater" fishery so i guess that gos to show you will find bowfin almost anywhere. SD
  8. SH i havent had a pontoon boat but i was just on basspros website lookin for somthing and pulled up their pontoon boats while i was on there. I dont know how to link you to the boat(i'm computerly challenged ) i'm lucky i can bring this site up everyday, but heres the item # for the water skeeter that they sell #38-789-430-00 it has 7 1/2' tubes and a 3pc frame. it sells for $299 Dont know if that helps but thought i would let ya know SD
  9. Now thats a good time to have it...........maybe to good of a time if ya know what i mean SD
  10. I'm stuck at home all weekend or i would have went and deff stopped to meet ya John, would liked to have been able to go and sit down to have ya show me your hex and sparrow flies if i had the chance. I dont know if many other members had the chance to go or not though. SD
  11. Just a little joke in the name of fun that SmallieHunter plays on new members fishboy to get them active......i see it works though as you are no longer a "baitfisherman" lol SD
  12. keep it up and you'll find that "yeti lookin thing" in a very uncomfortable location when we get to PA SD
  13. As i said earlier i dont really target bowfin specificly but i allways seem to catch a decent number of them where i fish alot for smallmouths and i use live crawdads 99% of the time for smallies so i would have to say that a crawfish fly would be a good thing to add to the bowfin menu. Also just as big daddy mentioned about the heavy cover and shallow water most of the best smallie spots i fish where i catch these bowfin are about 5' deep and right off of or between 2 submerged grass/reed beds so thats some good advice from the experience i have had with bowfin, but as was mentioned i'm sure Roughfisher will be able to shed alot more light on this subject. If some more good info is given on this then who knows i may just have to see if i can get one of them big ol' bowfin to suck down a fly next summer SD
  14. Tube flies are very interesting and funny you mentioned them Dornug becuase i was just lookin at a article in a back issuee of FlyRod&Reel from june about tube flies and i am kinda interested in tryin some when i get chance but dont really know if i want to get into a totally new type of fly when i still have alot of patterns that i'm tryin to work on right now. Sounds like you still had a decent time though. SD
  15. I already have a plan in the works my friend hopefully we can get a group of members together for it,there already seems to be a intrest in it so it looks pretty good. Just want to set a date that will work out for everyone that is intrested so right now i've just suggested ethier late march or early april which is usally peak time for the PM run. The fall run seems to be pretty good this year on the PM so if thats any idication then i think the spring run is gonna be a good one. Like i told everyone else suggest a couple dates around that time that would be good for you and i'll go back over the dates and pick one that will work for the majority of the guys interested. Wait a minute does this mean i'm gonna have to put up with meeting you TWICE in one year.... SD
  16. Well for those of us that didnt get to make it did anyone that went to the expo today see anything new or intresting??? Guess if you cant be there then ya have to live through others SD
  17. And heres one of those MI boys SmallieHunter was talking about Hows it going Derek nice to have ya join us,you fish the same rivers i do i would bet that we may have even been on the same river at the same time if you do alot of steelie/salmon fishing. I enjoy the PM more than any for steelhead/salmon but i have fished the others MO & bigM plus some of the smaller ones over there at one point and time. Look forward to you joing in the forums and the fact that theres so many MI boys here i think you will find makes for a great way to get together and make some new friends as well as share info on tying. SD
  18. Dornug its catagorized by species...bass/stellhead/panfish/etc... and you will tie 3 flies for each species you enter. But you do bring up a good point i'm not sure myself if trout is just a 3 fly species or if drys, wets, nymphs, streamers are gonna be seperate catagories. I'm sure SH will answer that one. SD
  19. Same here Dornug i would like to get in on this deal but with christmas so close $$ is reallt tight right now. So Riderbos is this type of "swap" deal something that you guys do every so often? If so please keep us posted when the next one comes around. Thanks SD
