    Joke

Damn you guys are hard to please....ok how about this one then. A string walks into a bar he sits down at the counter and orders a drink....... the bar tender looks at him and says.."oh sorry pal, but we dont serve Strings in here" discuraged from being turned away so many times the String gos outside..twists his body a bit...and messes up his hair he walks back into the bar and sits back down, the bartender looks at him...sqints his eye and says "hey arent you that string that was just in here?" the string looks at him and says "nope sorry,i'm a frayed knot" SD
  2. Just ordered a bottle of it i'll let ya know what i think of it. Thanks for the link OSD SD
  3. I like the look of it OSD looks pretty good,do you know if its avaliable to buy yet?where? Wonder if its gonna come in any different colors or just bright orange. SD
  4. I dont do "alot" of ebay ...maybe under 30 transactions in the last year.... but your right OSD....and lookin back i'm kickin myself in the ass for having a little faith in our fellow man.....never again! At least not on ebay that is! SD
  5. hmmmmmm......well for trout i still need some work on some of my trout flies so i'd say i only tie maybe under 50 "trout" flies each summer but i tie probally close to 100 or so flies for steelies in the spring. Then another 100 for fall steelies.....then i have never counted but for fall salmon i'd say i tie 300-400 flies for them(i usally sit down and tie 40-50 in a evening for salmon before the trip). So thats.....550-650 flies over the season...i think that seems about right...never really thought about it to be honest. SD
  6. Sorry fellas' but i gotta vent to somebody so it looks like you guys are the lucky ones I sold a few things on ebay a couple weeks ago and i put that i would only take money order/chashiers check. Well one of the things i was selling sold for $24.50 and after the auction the guy said he would send the payment right away,so after 2 weeks(right away huh ) i finally recieved a CHECK from this yahoo! I emailed him and asked why he sent a check and he said he was sorry he didnt read where i said MO/chashiers check and he assured me that it was a good check ...well being the nice guy i am i figured alright its only $25 so i cashed the check at my bank sent him the item and left him good feedback on ebay. WELL GUESS WHAT I GOT IN THE MAIL TODAY????......this A'holes freakin NSF check back from my bank plus a $20 charge to me for the bad check so not only am i out the $25 but i'm also out another $20 I emailed him when i got home this afternonn and still havent heard from him.....HE'S LUCKY HE LIVES IN OKLAHOMA AND NOT WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE OF ME or ol' big n' ugly SD as BDH likes to call me would have to pay this idiot a little house call! ............ SD
  7. Like JD said i also think you can mend too much...I have also seen guys use so much "slack line" in their mend that it would be imposiable for them to get a good hookset. As for the rod i think it depends on how comfortable you are with a long rod and the size of the river your fishing. For steelhead/salmon i use a 9'6" rod as my normal rod and i also have a 10'er that i like to use certian times. If your comfortable with a the rod that you have then i'd say dont waste the money to get a rod that is only 6" or so longer,it really wont make that big of a difference IMO. SD
  8. No biggie DFix,we all have things come up in our lives that are more important than tying a few flies so dont worry about it. Just hope you can get your work done in time to enjoy the holiday season SD
  9. Welcome woolly its a great site and has a wide range of tyers on it i'm sure you'll find some new patterens that will fit your style of fishing and will hopefully share with us some of your patterens. SD
  10. Thanks guys i am going to check out the rods ya'll mentioned this weekend plus talk to my sister and see if she thinks my nephew is ready for it(dont want to force him into it ya know) SD

Cant say i didnt warn ya Jim Although that one was so bad you'd expect BDH to post one like that SD
  13. Welcome to the circus show HDS Its nice to see so many people with such a wide range of preferred species on this site we all like to learn about all the different flies for each type of fish. Make yourself at home were all friendly folks on here and look forward to talking. SD
  14. I kinda wondered about that myself cant wait to read what BD has to post on these species, should be interesting. I dont fish for bowfin(dogfish ) but every year a end up catching a dozen or so of them while fishing with crawdads for smallies. They put up a helluva fight and are not really a "friendly" fish to have in the boat lol. Most of the ones i catch on the au sable run about 8-10#. SD BTW welcome to the site HDS

Billybob & bubba rented a boat and went out fishing after catching a huge fish billybob told bubba "hey mark this spot and we'll come back here tommorow" The next day while they where going to the boat rental billybob asked bubba "hey didya mark the spot?" .....bubba replied "yupp sure did...put a big ol' X right in the bottom of the boat!" billybob stopped, looked at bubba and said "ya idiot....what if we dont get the same boat today!" SD
  16. QUOTE (redneckfisherman @ Nov 30 2003, 07:15 PM) Well, I don`tk now any stealhead patterns, but I would like to learn some. It seems like smallie talked bout wooly buggers bein good. Are they steelie patterns? If not, are marrabou buggers? If not, could someone tell me a good pattern to learn to tie. I guess what I`m tryin to say is, if yall don`t mind a new steelie tier gettin in, then I`m in. Hope to get up and fish for them when I get my license, and I could just go ahead and get the flies now. So, I`m in! Tight lines and good tyin!-redneck Red sure you can join! If you want to tie a wooly bugger then just add a little sparkle (krystal flash) to the tail and a egg head if you want and presto...instant steelie fly SD
  17. Are you talkin about fly fishing for Gar? am i thinkin of the right fish? If so what kinda leader are you using for them? Long nose and toothy fish right? SD
  18. MC go into where it says "my controls" in the greeen section on the top of the page and it will take you to your "settings" page. Click on where it says upload avitar and you can browse your pictures on your computer and upload your own pic. If i remember it just has to be 150x150 MP no bigger. To put pics in your post you just upload them to the gallery first and then into your post. Browse through this forum and smallie has a step by step instructional on how to do it. Kinda late right now and i'm hittin the sack but if you still are having prob's with it tomorrow give me a PM and i'll walk ya through it. SD
  19. Welcome Jim glad to see some salt guys continue to join, our salt section is still in the "new" stage but its growing day by day and is really starting to take off. Striblue is the leader of the saltwater forum and i'm sure you will find his knowledge of saltwater very helpful with any thing you could want to know. You are correct the guys on this site will reply back to anything you post,we all enjoy the same thing here(fly fishing/tying) and all of us are more than happy to tryin help out a fellow fisher/tyer. Glad to have ya aboard! SD
  20. Thanks john i will check that out, i have never seen that method before and it looks kinda neat. SD
  21. Well i've been waiting till my nephew got a little bit older to buy him his first fly rod and now that he is 9 i am relly considering buying him one for christmas. He only gets to go fishing when i take him out witch is usally during the familys 2 week vacation in july to our cabin on the au sable and i usally take him and my neice out in the boat bass fishing, but i dont think i can wait any longer to get him out on a trout stream with me I would like to see what kinda idea for a rod you guys would think might be good for him,i will admit that i can some times be taken in by the "name game" when it comes to rods but i know for a little kid that will be hard on a rod and probaly loss intrest pretty quick for awhile i shouldnt' spend much on it. The reel isnt a big deal i'll probally get him a cheaper phluger rell or something like that since he wont need a reel that is to expensive, but does anyone have kids of their own that they have bought a fly rod for,if so what did you get for them? Should i get him a full length 8 or 9'er? Any suggestions are appreciated guys. Dont know if getting him a fly rod will be more to make him happy or to make me happy SD
  22. I agree that is pretty cool lookin.......i have been tryin to figure out what kinda hook that is tied on,is that hook bent off to the side? or is it just a "caddis" style hook and it just looks like it has a bend in it because of the angle? SD
  23. Already did but i'll say it again happy b-day bud
  24. Credit card LOL nope just a post where the members want to see what everyone else looks like to get to know each other better i guess. Yeah i love the old fishing pics steve, its so cool to see how the background never changes on the rivers. I could probally walk to the exact spot those pics were taken just by lookin at the river behind them. Cool how rivers never change even after 50 years ....as long as they are protected. SD
