  1. Hey guys i was looking for a pic of me for another site where they want the members to post a pic of yourself and i came across a couple pics i had forgot about that i thought were preety neat and wanted to share them with you guys. The first pic is of my grandpa hes the reason i got into fly fishing after he passed away and i found his old fly rod. The second is of his fishin buddy Paul. These pics were taken around the mid 50's on the Au Sable woly waters at burtons landing. The same water i now fish myself were my gramps used to fish 50 years before me...kinda cool! Needless to say from the looks of the second pic they didnt have C&R or limits back then SD
  2. Patience my eye, come on ya big woman lets go! SD
  3. Dont matter to me where my flies go,i already sent mine so its up to OSD what he wants to do with the extra set. If he wants to send them to Dfix or keep them himself or whatever he comes up with is fine by me. OSD is the swap meister so its his decision SD
  4. LB i played around with puttin eyes on some of my big trout streamer ealier in the year and i found something that looked pretty good and is pretty cheap. If you go to your local hardware store you can find these little round stick on "pads" that are made of rubber that are made for going on the bottom of stuff to keep things from slipping, like speakers, collectables and stuff that sits on a shelf and such. You can usally find some very small ones that are good for larger streamers just paint them and stick them on. I found a drop of super glue helps to hold them, plus there pretty cheap and come on a sheet so you get a decent amount of them. Give a look for them, they might be what your lookin for. SD
  5. I have wondered if anyone has ever noticed this for awhile now? I have been steelie fishing for quite awhile now and i "learned" to steelhead on the Pere Marquette river here in MI. It seems like 90% of the fishermen on the pm use 2 flies one as a point fly and one as a dropper usally the point fly is a egg and then the dropper is a nymph about 2' lower than the egg fly. Since thats were i started steelheading i have just always gone with 2 flys out of a force of habit but i can honestly only remember catching a handful of fish on the first or "attractor" fly most seem to come on the 2nd fly for me,just a coincedence or has anyone else ever noticed the same thing? Just wondered because in the frezzing cold its nice not to have to tie anymore knots than is necesary SD
  6. Welcome aboard adrian lots of fun and info to be had from this site,i'm sure you'll like the site. Check out our swaps and contest going on right now still lots of slots open in them.Nice to have ya join us SD
  7. I bought one of these awhile back and just wanted to let anyone that has never used one know how helpful these are. The LED lights give off a nice "glow" instead of a direct beam when you are tying on a new fly at night,IMO it helps to keep from casting a "beam" of light on the water that might scare the fish. Deff worth putting on your Christmas list when your honey asks you what you want(better than a tie right ) SD
  8. OK sounds good J.Johnson PM me your address,i'm gonna tryin get mine done asap and get them out early if i can get a little free time. SD
  9. Well Ashley if the ex dosent pick the little ones up in time, maybe you should add a couple of beginer fly rod packages to that christmas list SD
  10. TT i dont think there is a limit on size or type of hook used(at least i have never heard of one in any other swap ) so pretty much just tie up what you like to tie for steelies and send them to the SwapM. Krystal stone sounds great to me bud, look forward to seeing it SD So are you hosting Smallie?

  12. FW thats a hard question to answer but all i can do is give you my opinion. I think that alot of the patterens that are out there are not "must have" patterens to take whatever fish it is that you are fishing for. I think quite a few patterens come from the fact that we all get a little board at times while sitting at the vise and try to come up with some thing better, then again that kinda brings us back to the old argument of what exactly makes a patteren "new"? IMO i think alot of the patterens are deffenitly patterens that we wouldnt want to do with out but there are probaly just as many that we tie/buy that just satisfy us and not the fish. Given the chance a man will always try to "improve" or make some thing "better" i for example had large 4wheel drive blazers years ago, first one had 4" of lift...2nd had 8"...3rd had 12"of lift. Now i'm into drag cars...first one had a 350cid second 454cid....now it has 632cid... Follow me on this? We will always try to improve things but when it gets right down to it what we started with would probaly work almost as well. Or at least thats the way i see it.....sure is fun tryin though aint it SD
  13. Glad to see you got them added ridder! SD

  18. I've seen that before but never tried it....wonder how "heavy" it would be? SD
  19. Dan the first couple days were pretty slow but since it was through the week there wasnt alot of competition for river space so i could still find a decent spot or two with some fish. It seemed like it started to pick up a little later in the week and i did have 1 or 2 days towards the end of the trip when i found a big pod of them, but nothing really spectaculiar. Yeah i did some cleaning from the damn down to rea rd. bridge by myself although i'm sure that it was just as bad a week later. Oh well, was worth the effort to get a little of the trash of the river. SD
