  1. I have a habit of perusing the various fly fishing/fly tying web sites from time to time to look for what's new and to see if there are any changes...which leads to the following question. Looking at the HMH site I was wondering...What is the difference between the Spartan and Standard vises? They look so similar. Cheers, George
  2. THAT is one fine effort!!!! George
  3. Thank you guys!! Your favorable comments are much appreciated.
  4. An old friend asked me if I would tie him a Jock Scott, and that was all I needed to get back over the vise after a period of "tyer's block". I am reasonably pleased with this one...and as usual it was photographed before final preening. The only sub in the fly is the toucan. The stuff I have is only mediocre and I find I actually prefer the appearance of the sub of dyed CDC feathers anyway. Feel free to offer up any thoughts folks. Cheers, George

I've attached a photo of an insect we've seen on our deck several times. It is actually 2 of the buggers caught in "the act". Anyone know what they are? I tried some internet research, but couldn't find anything that satisfied my curiosity. Thanks in advance for any insight. Cheers George
  7. I do like that HMH-TRV you're using. One fine vise!!!
  8. To quote Darth Vader from the first time he saw Luke Skywalker's true abilities---"Most Impressive"
  9. HA HA HA HA !!!! I actually have one of those kits I bought at a charity auction a couple of years ago. It is 100% intact and all packages are unopened. Brought back some rather frustrating memories and funny moments. I'll have to take a couple of pictures and post them here just for the fun of it.
  10. In the end, all they are is hook holders no matter who makes them 😁
  11. At $3500.00 and up...it should be!!
  12. Decided to take a quick photo or what's happening with the vise I use...the Renzetti Master.
  13. Vicrider - We live in a world gone mad...or so it seems. I'll just take things as they come with no worries. - George
  14. Agreed Mark. Scheduled opening date August 9th. Let's hope they stick with that!!
  15. I just read on Microsoft news that Canada plans to open the border with the US for non-essential travel to people who have been fully vaccinated. Good news for the fishing, hunting and general tourist folks!!
  16. Been using a Renzetti Master for some time. There have been others in the mix now and again including Cotarelli T-Rex, HMH-TRV (about to get another) and other Renzetti models. Right now I consider the Renzetti Master the best vise money can buy...however the HMH-TRV is a very, very close second. It is my belief that if the TRV could handle the same range of hook sizes as the Master it would be the best vise on the planet...period.
  17. KrakenFly - Based on what I see here...you will fit in just fine. Just beautiful work!! That includes both the tying and the dying. WELCOME !!!!! Cheers, George
  18. Your work never fails to amaze, astound, impress and grab me. A feast for the eyes. Just stunning Jon!!!!
  19. These flies fall into the "way cool" category!!! Well done Jon.
  20. You guys are making me blush😎 Great to see your work here my friend. Beautiful stuff as always. Your talent never fails to amaze and impress me....
  21. Bitch about? What's the problem?
  22. First I have to get my anxious little hands on the vise...then go to work on it. I guarantee you will be kept informed.
  23. Dean: Like I said to Mark...you guys have given me food for thought. I know where I can get one brand new with free shipping and no sales tax. I have been agonizing over this for ages and I know I will decide before this day is over. As a side note, I am going to send some hooks to Toothy and he is going to give them a try in the FNF Talon. All this proves me to more and more every day just how great this site is.
  24. I'm talking filing both of the jaws Mark. Perhaps 1/32" on each. I would worry about grinding. Despite great care, and I am very good with my hands, I would worry about the metal temperature rising just a bit too much and reducing the temper of the jaws. Filing would be SLOW, but still maybe the way to go. You've given me food for thought.
  25. I have to agree with DFoster. Regal doesn't work for me either. These things are always a personal feel about a vise.. I never keep more than 2 vises on hand which means they come and go. At the moment the vises on the bench are Renzetti Master and a Cotarelli T-Rex. Love both of them. Enjoy the new stainless Regal...a fine looking piece of equipment.
