mines not as cool as those fishing desktops but... you guys cant say you actually turned them in last year for a science project and the teacher never noticed :headbang: .. yeah nobody likes him, not exactly the sharpest knife in the kitchen either.
  3. on their way pickin. should be there by the middle of the week id say but who really knows with snail mail.
  4. heres the link for another recent post with a bunch of tying videos. i just downloaded the one with dave whitlock tying up a spun deer hair bug and its awesome. the only downside to this videos is you have to download their OMN software to get the videos but no viruses or anything like that so your safe to do so. they also take a bit of time to download the videos too.
  5. what if we are the youngster can we self enter???
  6. honestly i only thought they did that in one of the 50 or so countries on the back of a mustad hook box not here could be interesting though.
  7. looks like mine will be in the mail on saturday.
  8. we just got ours not to long ago but i like it. its the new sony dsc-h5. i think it was a little over 700 at best buy. it takes awesome macro shots(although ive never really had any to compare to) 12x optical zoom and 24x digital zoom. has an automatic setting that takes care of everything except for flash and macro on its own and a whole bunch of other settings like landscape movie and others. i really like it but ive never really had anything except for 35mm film to compare it too. it doesnt however have interchangeable lenses. not sure if you really need em though.
  9. if he gets way behind you could always lend a helping hand madkasel
  10. ooops  i knew i forgot something after using that stuff.
  11. nov 20 sounds great im getting new materials in the mail soon so im gonna wait till they show up (hopefully tomorrow) and see what madness i can come up with.
  12. besides if the jaws are beat up you can get new jaws in the $20-30 range to me that should be the only part of a vise that gets beat up much. and if you have to get new jaws $130 is still less than i got mine. i didnt even have to convince the parents of getting it they just did since i helped with the landscape for like 3 weeks straight.

  14. i somewhat recently started as well and with a cabela's tying kit. there was an issue of some material shortages as you get a book with about 6 flies in it with the kit and thats about how much material they give you as well. luckily there was someone to help my parents with buying it and pointed out a few better quality tools to add to it such as the ceramic bobbin dr slick scissors and rotating hackle pliers. since this winter i will be helping a few boys in the scout troop get started on our yearly trip to cabelas this will help out a bunch. now i can tell them some other things to get and not to get discouraged by the vise. that cabelas master "vise" didnt seem that great to me. i havent even been tying a year and ive already replaced it with a renzetti. just like hairstackers kid i couldnt get the arm flipped up either and im 15. so i found a nice pair of pliers that fit around the adjusment knob and would flip the arm up with just enough pressure to hold the hook in place long enough to get the pliers around the knob and tighten the crap outa that thing. also just having this site around has made me be at the vise more tying stuff i never thought id be able to tie this site is great!
  15. no fair!! they certainly wont let us tie at school. maybe something about the razor blade in my tools... but then theyd complain about the scissors being small enough to fit in my pocket and therefore theyre a weapon
  16. i meant tie in stacking not pound the tips even stacking. way to many stacking terms.
  17. so tonight i went to the vice and made a stab at a #10 tap's bug for bluegill use. i got to packing and a stacking pretty well. on what was going to be the last stack and pack i was packing and heard a distinct sound. it was different from that of the normal thread breaking sound. since my arm was halfway across the room i had an idea as to what it was when i looked in my hand and still saw the fly then in the vice and saw the hook i thought of another tip hairstacker left out. dont pack it so hard you break the hook :wallbash: :wallbash:
  18. i spoke with hairstacker in chat and figured id post the update so otheres can learn from my mistake or misjudgement. i thought when he said stack hair the way he described he ment to move along the shank but you actually pile it right on top of the bundle. and hairstacker i cannot say how much i appreciate your help and i look forward to someday swapping deer hair bugs with you.
  19. i think i get it now but i gotta tie some flys for a swap now so itll be a bit before i can try. im probably going to be making a call or email to chris helms place requesting some red deer hair, a brassie packer, and gel spun. that taps bug was the first time for me to break 3/0 thread, and the second, third, fourth and fifth time too. but what about that blue leech guy will he work at all??
