Crystal Prince

Recommended Posts

The patterns I've found for a crystal prince (a variation on the prince nymph) all seem to use brown hackle for the collar behind the bead head. Is it critical to use brown? Only reason I ask is that I have lots of olive hen saddle, but no brown. Would olive work just as well? Do the fish care?

They look like this:

but with crystal flash instead of white goose biot on top.

Thanks!

Mike

It all depends on who you ask more than anything. Some guys follow a very strict set guideline for patterns, while others will toy with proven patterns and see what happens. My opinion? I think Olive works on almost anything and a prince nymph is somewhat of a generic pattern that looks like alot of things, so I wouldnt have a problem with subing olive for the brown myself ;)

You can change colors how ever you want. It might just work. Ever see a Brown and Yellow bee? I havn't but I've tied them and they catch fish sometimes better than Black and Yellow ones.
