Crappie Bluegill Sunfish fly swap...

Recommended Posts

Mailed mine out this morning, but I forgot to include a self addressed stamped envelope. DOH!! Is there anything I can do for you OSD? May I mail you some more flies to make up for the postage and the cost of the envelope? Your choice of flies.

Times is running out and the deadline is not far off so lets see if we can wrap this one up on time.

when I get home I hope to see most of the sets of flies in my mail

if you still haven't sent yours, It would be a good time to start thinking about it.

mrjim entry: pattern - bead head marabou ponytail crappie fly.

hook - size 10 mustad 9672 for beadhead or 9671 if no bead is used

bead head (5/32 gold)

thread - red uni 6/0 or 8/0

tail - krystal flash (chartreuse)

body - ice dubbing to compliment marabou (chartreuse for this one)

wing - marabou (chartreuse for this one)

Put on the bead and a base layer of thread.

Tie in marabou with end extending over hook eye 2 hook shanks.

Trim off the excess marabou 3/4 of the way back on the shank

Dub ice dubbing to form minnow shape - end up with thread at back of hook

Pull pony tail of marabou back and tie down

special notes:

Be sure to tie down the marabou close to the head tightly or it will pull back when you try to make the ponytail.

Keep the dubbing sparse at the back of the fly for a narrow tail

Make these in size 8 to 14, all colors (white/pink/yellow/green all good)of marabou, beaded 3/32 to 5/32 in gold or black. Or weighted with wire for a different action.

Well today is the deadline for this swap and the two remaining swappers who’s flies I haven’t received yet have not contacted me in regards to being late.

So I will divide up the flies Monday and send them out Tuesday unless I hear for them in the mean time.

The remaining flies form your set will be sent back to you.

Tonight I divided up the flies and got them ready to take to the post office tomorrow.

The way it shakes out is we had 2 swappers who were no-shows so that means we only had 11 which included your own set.

So I divided so each of us would get 11 flies which will include one of our own and we have also one other set of 11 that has no home.

I am not sure what to do with this other set

(Maybe someone has a good home for it?)

You could send them to the CFR program if there were no objections. I think dble haul collected donations recently. Unless you know someone who is really in need of a bunch of crappie/bluegill flies wink.gif

Got my today. Some really, really neat flies. I will be using them as patterns to try to tie some of my own. Thanks for the great ideas.
