i dont know what kind of camera your working with, but you should try to focus on the fly, not the background

I think the fly is too close for the camera. Perhaps it needed to be set on "macro". Even then, many point and shoot digitals won't focus quite that close. You're right, though, that the focus needs to be on the fly.
