JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2008 Re: How about a little "clouser" history lesson? One of the better posts I've ever seen here!!! I've always been inclined to call them "lead eye minnows" ... The amount of traffic this style of fly generates is incredible! Heavy, light, what hook, sparse, full, natural, synthetic, flash, no flash, flashtail, what color eyes.... Bottom line is, if it somehow suggests an edible thing, some fish will eat it. It is an incredibly useful style of lure, no matter what we call it. I've never much liked bead chain for trying to tie a fly which rides inverted. I've found the bead chain eyes need to be very large in order to be massive enough to flip the fly, even with light wire hooks.

This goes for any fly. Its more about the presentation then the fly.

deeky 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 I agree with Day5 on the beadchain. Because of their lack of weight, I have trouble with them not flipping the hook all the way over. But I don't like to go too big in order to get the weight right. So I use regular dumb bells that are more dense. Deeky
