dwiltshire 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2010 I would apply floatant to the post and the hackle - only lightly though. ~D

Arkansas Mike 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2010 Expertly tied as usual, Dave. Neat and sparse. Love 'em both. Mike
strmanglr 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2010 do your emerger parachutes have fewer turns of hackle than your regular parachutes? i'm wondering if i'm making too many turns, my regular parachutes have more hackle. checked out 'river fly box'-nice site. strangely though i have a craving for shrimp after looking at your flies on that site. is there something subliminal going on there? "Do you find that having this on your fingers makes the tippet float, or can you take care of that with a degreaser like orvis original mud?" i put floatant on tippet about 6" up from fly and it will make the tippet come up off the water about an inch right before the fly. anyone else do that? or am i wrong pursuing that method? Old Hat 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2010 ....or you could do a parachute with cdc. Lovely flies Dave. I also admire those hooks.

waterloosunset 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 sweet flies dave. expertly tied cdc. i cant even do cdc. hate the stuff. Persevere with it, it's worth a lot of effort, even tie "f flies", cdc is so great for dries.
FishyboY 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2010 i guess i should just tie more with it.... i just always neglect it for dries for some reason. but i will try it now.

Definitey a great idea, it floats incredibly well. A patch of amadou is very very very useful with cdc. If you get Marc Petitjean amadou a "replacement" sheet is cheaper than the amadou in the leather holder and you get more amadou. Amadou will almost completely dry a saturated dry fly. dwiltshire 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2010 Sorry I haven't replied to comments / questions - been so busy! I would apply floatant to the post and the hackle - only lightly though. ~D Do you find that having this on your fingers makes the tippet float, or can you take care of that with a degreaser like orvis original mud? I have got myself in the habit of used grease with my right hand and sinkant / mud on the other - then no contamination can occur. do your emerger parachutes have fewer turns of hackle than your regular parachutes? i'm wondering if i'm making too many turns, my regular parachutes have more hackle. This has fewer turns. I carry both heavy and sparsely hackled parachites and paraduns. With CDC, just practice. It's a great material. As suggested, try a CDC parachute too:
