Grand Traverse Bay Carping

Recommended Posts

I am heading north the first weekend in June to stalk some carp in the bays. wondering if anyone could share a few craw fish patterns that have been good in the Traverse. I have a quite a few already tied up that I used last time I was there but I want to try something new.

I don't know about the location you are fishing, but here is my #1 carp fly:

I like it, might give it a shot with more tan and sand colors.

If you like fishing for carp google "Grand Traverse Bay carp fishing", world class flats style sight fishing for carp.

Good looking pattern. u have a recipe?

Hook: standard nymph hook (you can also use a dry fly hook and it will work) 4-10

Thread: olive 140

Eyes: Bead Chain or dumbbell

Body: Fly Tyers Dungeon's Hare's Web (any natural/brown colored dubbing works)

Hackle: Brown or furnace from a whiting bugger patch

"wing": pine squirrel on smaller sizes and rabbit zonker on larger sizes
