bellevue.chartreuse.trout 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2014 I just got this rod a couple of days ago and had a chance to fish it last evening. I didn't get into the target fish (LM) as it had rained a decent amount over the past few days and I rationalize that, perhaps enough food has been either washed into or has stirred up in the lake which affected the fishing. I did catch a few 'juniors' on a different rod and fly, but no monsters. I bought the TFO because I want to toss big poppers - poppers tied on size 1, 2, 1/0 and 2/0 hooks. This rod has plenty of backbone to do this I think. It was tossing size 1 popper last evening and did a really fine job in the process. Pretty sure it has plenty in reserve for the larger sizes too. Just wanted to share that this rod performed admirably and I look forward to catching many LM this Summer on it. BCT
Tailing looper 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2014 Thanks for the report. I bought the BVK 9' 5wt this spring and am really impressed with it. I'm considering one of the ten-footers for float tube duty. Tight lines, Bob
bellevue.chartreuse.trout 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2014 I basically bought this for heaving big poppers and it seems, so far, to not disappoint. Only one time out so I'll evaluate further with more trips out on the lake. BCT
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2014 It's a good rod you will enjoy it. I've built a number of rods on TFO blanks before and always liked the quality of them.
Rocco 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2014 Bellevue, I have the same rod but planned to use it differently. Teamed with one of the Rio Teeny weight forward sink tip lines and bigger nymphs -- the new "crittergetters", strip nymphs, Teeny nymphs, and jointed stones and hexs etc. -- it allows me to go deep pocket picking while holding more line higher off the water and w/o adding weight to the flies or leader. Its an effective presentation for smallies, trout, and steelhead. Never considered it as a bass bug launcher -- until now. Thanks for the idea.
