September flies from the vise

Nice casket Eide . Looks like the super deluxe model.

The super-deluxe model will have the old Allcock hooks ;)

It will never cease to amaze me how Eide and others can tie such clean flies in such small hooks, and even smaller.

One day I will learn. Maybe.

Nothing like starting today!

Start with a pattern, one that you master, then tie smaller and smaller version of the exact same pattern: maybe from #10 down to #20, depending on what you are doing. Then you learn how to scale down to smaller hooks

Original had a dubbed head, aftershaft gives a different look; your choice.

hook - TMC 200R #10 (I know; but they look so nice)

thread - Danville 6/0 brown

tail/body - woodduck flank

underbody - Ice Dub hare's ear

hackle - partridge

head - pheasant aftershaft dyed brown

Regards,

Scott

Little suckers were hard to get a decent pic of last night. 20"er stones tied with Ice Dub instead of the naturals.

Eide,

The real problem is that there is NO pattern that I master...! :)

I did well on this little guy today. Head is messy, but I was in a hurry. Thank God for UV resin.

Do a search for 20"er stone fly. Charlie Craven has a great tutorial online that will be one of the top hits. You tie in a partridge feather by the tip, upside down, under the shellback. Then pull it right side up and forward, tie down, then pull the shell back over it.
