Kimo 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2017 Fantastic, but what’s new? This is an ostrich on ostrich scud. I usually have to use another fiber such as peacock in conjunction with the ostrich because the ostrich was too fragile and would not hold up to the eraser. Figured out a technique so that I can use just ostrich without it being damaged when using an electric eraser to take off the fuzz on the top of the fly. The hardest part is finding ostrich with long fibers. Most of the manufacturers "burn" the ostrich during the bleaching and dyeing process. I enjoy the look of this because I can combine multiple colors of ostrich, mimic the silhouette of the scud and have that cool segmentation in the abdomen. What I really meant to type was “fantastic, but what ELSE is new?” The difference a word can make.

What I really meant to type was “fantastic, but what ELSE is new?” The difference a word can make. I'm in production mode. I've been tying flies for Christmas presents. I am also replenishing my stocks to sell flies at the FFS in January and the WEST TU Fly Tying Clinic in Feb. I'm also tying flies for this Spring which is right around the corner. My fishing buddies don't tie but have boats and are great company. We are priming for a great smallie season at the local res. Kimo And no, I was not offended, I did know what you meant. Sandan 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2017 All of you are tying such nice flies. Very inspirational. Here's a 24 San Juan emerger and a 22 Rojo Midge. And the San Juan box is starting to look not empty.
SBPatt 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2017 Goulet's Moby Dick From Massachusett's tyer Dave Goulet; not sure if it's a nod to Melville or Bonham. Can be tied as a wet, dry or streamer; I skinnied it down a bit here so it's more of a beluga than a sperm whale. hook - Mustad 9671 #8 thread - Danville 6/0 black tail - golden pheasant tippet rib - small wire gold body - peacock herl hackle - brown wing - mallard flank Regards, Scott

Kimo I have some very nice ostrich herl from Lucian Vasies Troutline in Romania. Shipping is expensive of course, but I think the herl is a good deal. 372C7DE2-27AC-4D59-BA51-A4E9DE70522A.jpeg The chartuse is from Orvis, the olive is from Troutline. Gorgeous stuff! Try using both at the same time. I just go to the local shops and pick thru what they have. I have been very lucky. Kimo
