Wings

Recommended Posts

I use white polypropylene for the wings........I run a comb thru it to thin it out and make it translucent, then put some lacquer on the very tips to hold it together. when you cast, the wings collapse to minimize drag and whern it lands, they plop back out. i also use a marker and put veins on the wings. some people use thread on the body to help hold it on the hook(along w/glue). it also gives the segmented body effect. I quit doing that and use a marker instead, the thread compresses the foam if you get it too tight and cuts down on the floatation. you could probably counter that by using a smaller wire hook, but the hooks i've been using are a little too heavy......the thread method does look better though.

I just got back from wally world and picked up a few sheets of bluegreen foam for .33cents each (thats for the tip Will....i guess you are good for ONE thing tongue.gif )

So what hooks are best for these little suckers then? I was going to use more of a streamer style hook to get the length but thats a pretty beefy hook, should I go with something more slong the lines of a xl dry fly hook?
