  2. I love it! Great looking fly! You better send me up a few dozen asap!! lol When I tie my speys I usually do a fairly tight body. But then again I tie them on smaller size 8 hooks. Phil
  3. Oh by the way that is one great looking fish.
  4. Hey! I do the same! The sea run fishing is open all year, although I don't fish in the salt, I fish the estuaries Along the coast. I have not been very successful at it but its goof fun. What are some of oyur favorite flies? Phil
  5. Ya, Thanks Jamie! That is what I meant. By the way great tuber there! Phil
  6. people use a large sewing needle to hold the tube, if you want you can use q-tips i have not used those before but I hear it is possible.
  7. I havent got it yet. But I am in Canada so I guess it will take a little longer. Phil
  8. Here is a black doctor feather wing for fishing. Notice the extra space behind the eye I left that there for a hitch. Although there are some flaws in that fly for sure. Phil
  9. Thanks Bob, I should try that! I was going to go for 3 at first but just couldn't. Thanks again man, I will try that with only one jc nail. The wing is a little long... eh.. haha phil
  10. Thats true, I have had two cases with mustad. One had a hook with a flattened eye, the other had an open eye. I haven't experienced that before with daiichi or tiemco. Although there is a price difference aswell. As for the signature hooks I have never experienced that sort of thing. I would rank them up with tiemco and daiichi. I do find that mustads fish quite fine. I rarely use a hook/fly multiple times, although I do find the other hooks remain sharper longer.
  11. I find the JC wings to be quite difficult to get precise on a size 8. Also the black hackle is a webby feather from the base of a rooster saddle I have. The fibers have a tendency to flair out, but should give good motion in the water. I meant to make a rusty yellow seal or wool head but forgot. Poor photo but hope it looks alright. Phil
  12. Mustad has gone the cheapest route for them. The bottom line is the biggest motivator. But I am unsure how their hooks had been compromised. If the material the hook is made out of and the equipment that makes the hooks is the same in place "a" and in place "b" then the hooks shouldn't be very different if at all. Maybe there is another factor at play, but I don't see it.
  13. it all has some sort of application. But for me I stay away from a lot of the more hollow stuff. And I look for pieces that have a nice tip, as in there are no broken tips. Also fairly straight hair is preferable.
  14. Hey JS They are worst then the rest of em,
  15. I agree, quality control is important, but maybe this shouldn't be discussed here in this manner. Sorry guys All Countries and people deserve respect, even bait fishermen
  16. whats the difference if they both use the same materials and equipment. Other then the fact of wanting to support a specific economy, ie. your own, why does it matter, if you are only after the hook. Im afraid an anti China attitude can almost appear as a negitive comment about Chinese people. I am not pointing fingers.
  17. Its not to Newfoundland Canada yet.... lets hope soon Micke!!! lol
  18. unless you are tying for selling dont worry too much about the durability. the humpy will last quite a while so tie up a few more.
  19. nice artur!!! what is that blue hackle?? That is one heck of a nice fly mate. Phil
  20. I was wondering when Hatches will be hitting the Canadian mail boxes? Im pretty anxious to see this new issue. Has any Canadian received their issue yet? Phil
  21. Nice Micke!!!!!!!!! I bet that one is killer! What hook is that? By the way ill take a dozen also ... let us know how it works Phil
  22. I use caribou for my bombers. It floats much better then deer IMO. Although the hair is a little more underfur, and is a bit thinner therefore easier to cut through with the thread. Also I seem to go through an awful lot! lol. The only two colours I use are natural (in various shades) and dyed green for Green Machines. phil
  23. Wow, Now that is one wicked fly! I don't usually like long tags, but that tag of oval tinsel looks unreal on this pattern. great job, Phil
  24. Very nice ties, I have a fly very similar to this one but with a purple floss body instead. I notice you tie on more wraps of ribbing then usual. Phil
