  1. well.....I've never done a swap before....but I've got this Dr. Seuss looking bugger I just tied that I think would be a welcome guest to the party....so......I'm in....if there's still room.....exactly what do I need to know to be part of this swap?
  2. i'll post some pics after sundays outing.....nice bug by the way.....
  3. very nice samples...can't wait to tie a few of those....that fire tiger is cha-ching....money.....thanks
  4. i ain't skeered.....love fresh water fish with big teeth....hahaha....I do believe it's a different body of water this weekend that strikes my fancy....a new adventure...
  5. a new bucktail/spun deer hair floating minnow......if all goes well, gonna get some pike action on sunday....
  6. ok....I'll give some leeches a try then....I have not used them at all....Any specific coloring?
  7. Does anyone specifically target walleye with flies?......What kinds of crazy patterns are you tying?....I've been using deep clousers. white/grey....shad colored.....chartreuse/white.....some success, but not as much as I'd like.....Anyone have any suggestions....Thanks.....
  8. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by smalliestalker: Shad Clouser
  9. yeah... I like bigger fuller minnows as well....especially this time of year...in the spring and summer I tie them a little smaller and thinner....I like the half and halfs....I always throw in some feathers on the bulkier patterns....
  10. I will try and post up step by step pics and a materials list for this fly later this afternoon or evening.....thanks for checking it out...
  11. I came up wih a half and half pattern that resembles a shad coloring....it's made of bucktail, flash, and feathers.....large size weighted eyes painted red and black...I tie it on a size 2 streamer hook, 3x long.....there is a picture posted below....I went out today, despite the rain....I never changed flies.....I landed 31 smallies, 1 walleye....I missed 12 when going to lip them..... in 5 hours.....All with this one pattern....oh.....I bought a new kayak....everyone should try one of these...Freedom Hawk 14.....what a kayak.....it was made for the fly fisherman.....here's some pics....
  12. thanks....you have some beautiful flies on your web site....
  13. No painting...the hair comes pre-dyed....I use a blend of colors....thanks for checking them out though...I love doing spun deer hair flies....
  14. some new flies for this weekends smallie and walleye excursion....tried some new stuff...i was given some circle hook jigheads by a friend to try....so I thought...walleye....flashy colors, flies with some weight....why not....there are some huge flat underwater rock ledges that I fish that I thought would be perfect for deceivers......some bass bugs....I made an articulated one for fun.....it has good action in the water...we'll see if it catches anything....
  15. smallmouth rule the warm water....i do however have a love for fish with teeth....pickerel on top water with a zoo cougar, or bass bug....oh my....the water explodes and the fight is on.....walleye....nothing like seeing those glowing eyes coming up from the depths with a streamer hanging out of it's mouth full of spikes......i have yet to go for muskie or pike.....maybe soon...
  16. went on a little smallie outing yesterday....water was a little murky....the bite was a little slow...all in all...caught 10 smallies ranging from 10 to 15 inches....a little less catch rate then expected, a little on the small side as well....but hell....better then none at all....I am posting some of my go to flies that I tie for smallmouth....
  17. i use a little super glue then clear nail polish over the entire thing....it actually adds more shine and depth to the eyes...
  18. Thanks...the same thing here as well..it rained a ton....muddy and high were the waters most of the summer...recently it started to clear up again....but rain is in the forecast for this week as well.....ahhhh.....the struggle of being a river smallmouth addict.....
  19. i use 30 pound mono to attach the hooks.....i make artisulated bass bugs and clouser styled minnows articulated....i tie the mono down on the front hook, loop it through the eyelet on the back hook.....apply a liberal amount of cement, and tie the tag end back down to the front hook shank....seems to be working well.....although the options above seem like great solutions as well....
  20. thanks...schoharie creek.....lower end...below Gilboa
  21. in the personal info section of my profile, it states that I am a bait fisherman....nothing can be farther from the truth, the problem seems to be that I can't figure out how to change it on my profile.....can anyone help me change this? thanks for the help....
  22. I went out today for a few hours.....it has rained for the last two days on and off....my usual stomping ground was high and dirty......made for some challenging fishing....I managed to catch and release 7 all together....here's a few pics...the fly used is here as well...tied it last night...it's a clouser half and half with a spun and clipped deer hair head....I figured I would need to move some water to get there attention.....worked like a charm....
  23. I went out yesterday morning for about 90 minutes to a small trout stream 20 minutes from my house...I haven't been trout fishing since the beginning of July....I was pleasantly rewarded with 4 brookies.....I only took pictures of 2....I caught them using a muddler minnow size 8, a micro brown bead head bugger, size 12, and a ginger/grey size 10 bivisible.....enjoy....
  24. I fish for a wide range of species.....when I buy capes, the bigger fluffy feathers underneath make for excellent body/tail portions to half and halfs or deceivers for smallmouth.....i also attach them as tails to divers and poppers....nothing ever is wasted....good luck
  25. just wanted to say hello all.....i'm new as of today to the forum....i'm pretty stoked to be part of this community of tyers and bugslingers.....i live in upstate NY, river smallmouth is my passion, but all fish are fair game.....
