  1. BassBugs

    good books?

Death, Taxes, and Leaky Waders by John Gierach One of my all time favorites
  2. Sorry to disapoint but I am no Mr. Weiss, in fact I was not aware of that competition at all. I was skimming through lateral lines website and saw picture of it. I tried to replicate it but as you can see its a pretty unique one, I got kinda close but nothing like the original, so I used the actual picture. I didn't mean to take anything away from Mr. Weiss I saw the fly here http://laterallineco.com/blog/who-tied-thi...r-fly/#comments and it had no creator. Ryan
  3. The tail flattens up a bit but the joint between the hooks really gives it a nice wobble, really nice action one of my favorite flies pain in the butt to tie though.
  4. I have both a bass pro shop and a cabella's close and Scheels even closer with a few fly tying essentials. As for the Chenille you buy when you say cheap you mean the price not the quality right? I guess I am just confused when the chenille at a fly shop is like 5 yards and is 2 - 3 bucks but I can buy chenille at the hobby store or the fabric store for the same price and it is 100 yards or whatever. I mean I prefer the chenille in fly shops better just because I know its for fly tying, and also the chenille I have found at hobby shops is usually of lower quality, and spun a lot more loose then the fly quality chenille, so I tend it falls apart quickly. Thats just my observation though, some people may like the hobby shop material better.
  5. I'm lucky enough that I have a bass pro within 15 minutes of driving from me, and even luckier that it has a fly shop in it. Most of my materials come from there like rabbit strips, and dry fly hackle, but occasionally ill stop to by some cheap chenille at a hoppy shop. Things can get pretty expensive at the fly shop. Ryan
  6. I usually use the longer tailed divers in the reservoirs, the bass usually hit it in the middle and doesn't seem to affect the hook up ratio. Although when I got to rivers and streams I usually trim it down a little more, especially for the smallies.
  7. Pretty wicked fly, what retrieve do you use to keep the blade spinning.
  8. Hey All, I'm new here, but not to fly tying, and just as my first post I'd like to share some of my smallie flies that use out here in Maryland. While I'm sure you recognize the diver, the first two are hellgrammite imitations. The second Hellgrammite is heavily wrapped with lead, with the foam head it gives it a browsing look on the bottom... or so I'd like to think.
