Hi, I copied this photo of a March Brown Sparkle Dun from Craig Mathews' latest newsletter from Blue Ribbon Flies. I have posted photos of sparkle duns here and have been told that the "tail" - trailing shuck- should be very sparse. This one is, I presume, tied by the co-inventor of the Sparkle Dun, or someone on his staff and to his specifications. Note the trailing shuck.

Curious. What is he charging for these? No info on the web site Mine is an early production one. It has a good feel in the hand and is designed to be more ergonomic than traditional straight design. If you look at the photo on his website, you can see how it fits into your tying hand. It is also very smooth and top quality construction. I don't think he has set a formal price yet. Do not fear the untried

Hi, Buddy and I fished for a week on a Missouri State Trout Park stream. This was the "dining table" in our little cabin. Fishing was great!!! A poster I bought at Bennett Spring, Mo.

I have a feeling that those built by him after his demise would probably be worth more. Don't think he built anyafter his demise....... Oh bummer, I would love a ghost built flybox. Honestly, I have no idea what they are worth, I just thought that line of your post was humorous. I understand they are now being made by someone else. The one I have was made by Richardson before he quit the business which I believe/thought would make it more collectible.

I would considerate it

Does it matter that it is about 30 years old, though brand new. Black in color. 5 drawers, and built by Richardson before his demise???

I just found a brand new original Richardson chest fly box. It has his name and location engraved on the top rim Anyone know the value?? Have any interest? Thanks, Byron

Dyna-King Ron Abby vs Barracuda [Deluxe]
flyfishing99 replied to EzGoing's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
I have a couple Dyna Kings. The smoothest, by far, is the Sidewinder. -
Be sure you have a good thread base on the hook. It helps keep the hair from spinning......

Oh sure rub it in. You get to live on a Tropical Island. I live in a state surrounded by PA, DE and NY. Uhh wait that's some of the best fishing in the Mid-Atlantic. Never mind It took a lot of beer to get me on the plane for the eight hour flight to Oahu. Even more beer and a couple of shots of whiskey for the return trip, LA was experiencing a small rumbler during our approach and there was a wicked storm over the east coast. Did I mention I hate flying  Hey, my brother............. I wouldn't fly for 15 years because of my phobia of flying. Finally, my doctor gave me some special pills. They really work. Still do not like it, but no other alternative out here.

Will this work for a scud/sow bug????
flyfishing99 replied to flyfishing99's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
It is my jvice. However, the jaws are limited production by him and are damasteel. He only made 6 originally. Now, he is making a second batch for July. his website is: jvice.com -
Hi, I'm packing some of my fly tying gear for a fishing trip back to the Midwest from my home here on Kauai. It is like trying to stuff a room into a fly tying gear bag - doesn't fit!!!! Luckily, there is a great fly shop near where I will be fishing for all the things I forgot or couldn't get in the bag. Anyone else have trouble knowing what to take with them????? Byron

OK, thanks! Do you put head and tail on yours??? -
If you do a google search for "hatch chart for......". Put the name of the area or river in the search. Check the resulting chart for the insects hatching at that time. I would "guess" that the answer might be March Browns and blue wing olives. Then look up fly patterns for the insects listed. Hope this might help

Hi, Planning on fishing a spring creek in a week or so. I rarely tie/fish scuds, so I'm not sure I'm in the ballpark on this one. Would appreciate knowing if you think this will work before I tie a bunch of them. Thanks, Byron More traditional color with a bead head

The deer hair is dyed a dun color. I purchase it from Craig Mathew's Blue Ribbon Fly Shop in West Yellowstone. It is specially graded for tying comparaduns. They are pretty famous for their deer hair.
