  1. Email sent, My Email adress is [email protected] let me know if you didn't recieve my email and I will resend it. Thanks
  2. I can't help with fly selection but I can tell you that the ausable river is a VERY good river for numerous types of fish from trout to bass and even panfish. I live a little ways north of there and I can say that there is always talk here about the fishing on that river. Its a good bet you'll catch something no matter when you go.
  3. I will learn that one from you LOL sounds like that may have been a slight oversight
  4. I can say that I will be back as soon as I am able to. Your definatley right, I'm pretty well hooked and can't wait for the next one. There are a few things in fly fishing that really get me excited. Like a bass blowing up a topwater, a brookie taking a dry fly, and right up there is that initial run from a carp the split second after you set the hook! It's like hooking into a runaway freight train on fly tackle. I do agree, I wasn't expecting it and I had a good size amount of line on the ground when I set the hook. I had to fight back the urge to just let go so I wouldn't give my fingers a friction burn. I can say this next time I know what to expect so I will be ready LOL.

  6. I have been scouting and trying to get my first carp on my fly rod. Well this afternoon I have succeeded, I was sight fishing a small inlet in the Thunderbay river that I have been watching the last few weeks and I spotted a few lurking in the shallows. I casted a few times and realised that they were very line shy. I waited and found one in reach then made my cast almost 20 feet in front as to not spook them. I watched him see it and turn and next thing ya know fish on. It led me through most of my fly line and through more weeds and lilly pads than I thought possible I got him to shore. In the proccess of getting him to come in I snapped the line and it was still half in the water so I just reached down and scooped him up. I caught it on a fly made simply of yellow marabou bulged up to look like corn cernals. I sadly lost it later in the day but I can make more LOL.
  7. They are for display. To fish, you need some modifications!!!! Sergio That's what I thought just wasn't really positive, Although it would be something that you could fish, It looks durable enough to be fishable with minamal damage.
  8. Ok..... not to be a dunce but I have taken the time to look though alot of realistic patterns and I have the same question about every one that I see. Does anyone really tie these fly for use or are they for show. I can say that if I took the time and effort to make one I can assure you that it would never touch water LOL but that's just me.
  9. The hook is a size 4 aberdeen so its not a small hook but the hackle may not ne pheasant. I perchased a medium sized chunk of hackle feathers and it wasn't labeled as to the speciese it came from. I have seen peasant hackle and all of them resemble my piece. I can't say for sure that it is pheasant but its my guess but really any hackle would do. I can get a pic of it later if you could help me identify it that would be great. Thanks
  10. Okay I just posted my other SBS it the Red headed Bleeding Wooly Bugger. I have a total of two SBS's and I am all set, If I decide to post a few more I would be more than happy to cover shipping on them in the future, Just let me know if there is a problem. Contact me for my box selections and I will Pm my info along with it. THANK YOU this is a great idea and an awsome deal. I am pleased to see that there is an insentive to help others creating ideas and patterns. I have grown my skills in tying due mainly in part to this forum and the people here that help me learn and gain the tying knowlede. I thank you all!!
  11. Red Headed Bleeding Wooly Bugger Materials: Hook: standard clouser or streamer hook size of choice Lead wire Tail: Olive Marabou Body: Olive flash dubbing Back stripe: Dyed squirrel tail (red) Hackle: Large Pheasant Hackle Beard: Black falshabou Head: Spun deer hair (red) Wrap lead from half way point back to the hook barb and cover with thread (I like to put a thread damn on both sides of the hook to help secure it) Tie in Marabou tail Tie in hackle Dubb body to cover lead Tie in squirrel tail at the front of the body Hold squirrel tail down and palmer hackle to the front of the body securing the squirrel down Tie in Flashabou under hook and trim to desired length A better view of the Flashabou Spin deer hair just in front of the body (I like to put a thread damn in front of each set of hair, helps to hold hair in place and keep it pointed towards to rear Continue to spin deer hair to make a nice sized head and whip finish Trim head to desired length and Enjoy
  12. Bearded Clam This is a simple carp fly that is easy to tie and very easy to change and experiment with. Materials: Thread: Danville 6/0 Cream Hook: Size 6 Standard straight shank Lead dumbell eyes Dubbing: White rabbit, Olive sparkle dubbing Tail: Dyed Blue Buck tail, Black Flashabou Beard: Dyed blue and Black barred squirrel tail Tying the Bearded Clam Set a thread base and tie in dumbell eyes at 1/4 down the shank. I like to put the eye on the bottom of the hook which causes the fly to set hook point up in the water therefore helping with snags and hook sets Tie in the flashabou with a full shank length tail Tie in the bucktail half the length of the shank Dubb body, I like to dubb it in contrasting colors but its totally your choice if so or not. I also like to make the "head" of the fly the place to change the color. Tie in the squirrel tail just behind the eyes on the underside and wrap forward to the eye of the hook, then come back behind the hair and wrap a few times underneath to cause the hair to stand up. Trim hairs or tail (optional, and I don't like the trimmed look) and whip finish. I hope you have as much luck with this as I do and if you come up with any good variations feel free to let me know so I can tie some for myself. Enjoy I apoligize for the low quality pics my camera is temorarily out of commision.
  13. I just posted a pattern for the Bearded Clam Carp fly and I will be posting one more in the next few days. One question, Do we contact you after posting or do you contact us about the box choices, adress and info?
  14. Fly's are in the mail, Thanks for hosting and can't wait to see what everyone else has tied. Thanks to all.
  15. That is cool as SH!T!!!!! I love the pic and the fly looks just as impressive.
  16. Addy please I will have them in the mail tomorrow.
  17. I would join as long as its not before mid Aug. I have another swap ending then and I would need some time to finish those before commiting to this swap. I should be available if its in that area tho. I am starting to tie my current swap now and should be done before this one starts. Just post the dates and info and I will varify then.
  18. Actually this is incorrect. Based on his posting history he participated in 11 swaps and he has only been a member here since late December. There was nothing indicating he was a problem swapper and he sent his flies in for all 11 in a timely manner as far as I know. The only thing he did not do was contact me with his contact information prior to hosting his first swap. In fact he hosted two swaps, the Panfish swap that he hosted went smooth and there was no problems reported to me. Mr Utah believes that we "dropped the ball" on this one but if you can't trust a guy that participated in 11 swaps over the course of a few months than I just don't know what more I can do. I think it was his intent to just host and run and he was padding his stats by participating in the swaps an d hosting a prior swap for the rep boost. To be honest it sounds like he was planning it and it wasn't just a spur of the moment thing. But I wasn't a member before the botched swap so all I have to go on is the word of others. It just sounds like he had a reason to make himself trust worthy in a short time before others really got to know him.
  19. I was just starting out fly fishing and I wasn't real bad, I needed some practice. So I decided to go down to the river and just work on my casting. It was no more than 15 minutes after I started fishing and it seemed like half a million people came down to fish. When I got started there was nobody besides myself and so I was confident. Well I just tryed to not let it bother me and I went on fishing. I hadn't caught anything and was about to leave when I got a "bite", I set the hook and the fight was on. Now for some background, I was fishing just below the local damm and there is a lot of large rocks and debris around. I was casting on the less fished side of the river and so everyone there could just look up and watch. I fought this "fish" for about 5 minutes and it didn't seem like I was getting anywhere, I noticed that the guys on the oposite side of the river where still fishing so I yelled "fish on!!' and hoped they woul reel in so there would be no tangles and I wouldn't have to cut someone for breakin my fish off LOL. After everyone had reeled in and I was now the specticle I finally landed my catch...... drift wood!! I felt like an idoit and it didn't help that everyone down there saw me and my trophy log. I promptly gathered my gear, tucked tail and left. The worst part was about a week later I returned to fish again and I was told by about three to four people that "some dumb a$$" was fishing and got all excited about catching a peice of wood. All I could do was laugh and hope they didn't realize that I was the "angler" in question.
  20. It's never let me down before! Except when it makes me trip and take a nice dunking! Just think of that as a big sloppy kiss and a good squeeze. It kinda gives you the same feeling, goose bumps, a chill down your spine...... a little wet....... and you can always look back and say Oh what a day that was
  21. Mine are in the mail and on the way. Can't wait to see what everyone else tied. Thanks to all.
  22. EXACTLY! most swaps are about a month long and there should be no reason why a swapper cant tie 12 in a month AND send in the flies by the deadline (barring some unforseen personal tragedy)(having sniffles or a cold is not a personal tragedy. ive seen that excuse before) there will always be procrastinators and theres nothing that can be done except once you know who they are, send a simple PM asking them politely not to participate i have meistered swaps and made a condition if i didnt recieve the swap flies by the swap deadline, they would be returned WITHOUT any swap flies. i dont think thats being mean if you thought you cold be lazy and procrastinate and have the other swappers who were on time waiting for you to deliver. I agree totally. if you can't get them tied on time and shipped before the deadline, than why should I wait for you to be lazy and irresponsible. I feel that returning the fly's to the tardy swapper without swapping is the least you could do. I simply think that if someone has a lagitamate reason to drop out than it should be excused without pregudice, but with in reason. once or twice is nothing but if its like two swaps in a row or within a certian time peroid than I could see a list such as a probationary list that the SM's could use to simply PM the person in question and use for their referance so that they can be watchful of progress and maybe check up from time to time during their participation. Just my thoughts. I too would not like to be banned if I had to drop out due to a good reason such as an emergency.
  23. Thanks I think I will take a good variety of flies and see if any of them strike their fancy. I guess you never know till you try right.
  24. If I may ask how did you go about getting your comercial tying started. I have seen a small amout of locally tied fly's at my bait shot (small town but one of the biggest shops around and locally owned). I am trying to aquire the materials to get a good variety of patterns available to me and them I am planning on seeing if they would either sell them on commision or puchase them from me at a wholesale price. I judt don't want to make myself look like an idoit LOL. So any advice would be greatly apreciated.
