  1. Here is a link to a site with a lot of warm water fly patterns, how to tie them and best ways to fish them. Most of the rubber leg patterns are great for gills. http://www.warmwaterflytyer.com/welcome.asp Best of Luck, Nick
  2. Just what I need at my age, something to keep me going.
  3. For many years I tied dries, wets and streamers for fishing the streams and rivers of Michigan. Recentlyi we moved to Northern California and my interests are now leaning toward the rivers of the Pacific Northwest and chasing steelhead and salmon. Now in my rather senior years I find myself spending more time at the tying bench and enjoying it even more. I have developed an interest in tying some of the classic Salmon and Spey flies and would like to ask some of you that are experienced in tying these beautiful works of art, what you would consider to be the must have books and refernce sources for one who wants start tying the classics. Thanks in advance, Nick
  4. I have hand tied for several years using Maxima and connecting the sections with blood knots. In recent years I have used the Davy Wotton leader knot. It is a strong knot and much smaller than a blood knot, I also use the Davy knot and double Davy knot for connecting the fly to the leader. It is fast to tie and stronger and smaller than a clinch knot. If you google the Davy Wotton leader knot, there is a video on tying it, done by Troutpreditor, there are several videos on the Davy knot as well. Nick
  5. About 20years ago the late Rusty Gates introduced me to and taught me how to tie the EC Cadis (emerging cripple). I have been fishing the Manistee and Ausable for about 40 years and for quite a few years now that has been my go to caddis pattern throughout the country. I carry a box of them in sizes 14 to 20 in various colors. Here is a link to the pattern and tying instructions. http://stevenojai.tripod.com/eccaddis.htm
  6. i voted dry flies but usually fish emergers, my favorite being a Quigley cripple or some variation of it using CDC.
