  1. Cheers Piker. That gives me a confidence boost. I just tried a pinch of the elk it tends to flair more than deer.
  2. Gotta do up some rolled muddlers in a hurry and realized tonight that I am really short on suitable deer hair. Was wondering if natural elk could serve as a substitute till I hit up the shop? Will only be using a small pinch as the pattern is generally tied very sparse. I'm tying in the sizes 6 to 12 on standard TMC nymph hooks. Any advise or alternate material thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Chuck
  3. Nice looking bugs Nick. Gotta get my skills up to try some Wally Wings. Sure look slick!
  4. Now this one whispers fall smallmouth to me! Excellent tie.
  5. Nice tie Nick. I'm sure that one would be popular over here in Japan. Oddly, I've yet to try tenkara. I've browsed the many rod and line offerings at my local fly shop. I'm sure my curiosity will get the best of me yet. Keep us posted on how you get on with this pattern. Cheers.
  6. Wow! Some incredible patterns. I especially like the family of Trudes and the foam wing caddis! Yep I'm doing some trout fishing next week.
  7. Love it Nick! I bet It'd be bloody effective too mate! Cheers for a great tutorial.
  8. Sure was a pretty fish Mike. I envy your warmer bassing venues!
  9. Very slow to start here as well. The only tip I had they were starting were a few startled minnows flashing near the surface from time to time. Couldn't really tell if something was under them. Guess now it's always worth a try.
  10. No problem. I never sweat the typos.
  11. Thanks steeldrifter. That fish sure warmed up some pretty cold fingers. Was out again today and lost another. Really looking forward to the warmer weather but I guess the slow fishing will keep me busy for now.
  12. Early Season Smallmouth. Found a player on Monday. Went for a very slowly presented marabou muddler.
  13. Awesome Mike! Great day on the water.
  14. Nice looking patterns JacksonK. I fish carp quite a bit and I'm very confident your patterns will produce. Give them a go and get into some gold!
  15. Nice work! The PT legs look great. Can never get mine to behave like that.
  16. Awesome Retro. Send us a little of that summer sun will ya.
  17. Nice looking tie Henrik. I like the seals fur it really makes the pattern. Is the tail and wing bleached elk?
  18. Thanks flytire! Great for my wet trout classics.
  19. Nice one Retro. I like the way you got the hackle to extend to the tail or a little longer. You can run the after shaft feather completely to the eye if you dare it's pretty fragile stuff to work with. Please let me know how you get on with it in Oz. I'm confident It'll be a good compliment to your other patterns.
  20. Cool looking bugs Retro. Fish magnets for sure. I really like those baby legs in the dubbing. Thanks Chuck .....Your sparrow looks pretty damn cool are they an easy tie ? They look as if they will catch brownies for sure Cool looking bugs Retro. Fish magnets for sure. I really like those baby legs in the dubbing. Thanks Chuck .....Your sparrow looks pretty damn cool are they an easy tie ? They look as if they will catch brownies for sure Quite a straightforward tie Retro. Here's the link to the SBS. Scroll down to Sparrow and then click on the SBS. Has suggestions for variations and substitutions as well. Should be the crack for browns, and generally a solid warm water performer. http://www.jackgartside.com/art_pheasant_feathers.htm
  21. That's a pretty looking jig fly. I've really got to get on to some of those. Happy Thanksgiving TC!
  22. I love this pattern too. It is effective on many species as well. There are several variations I've seen, but I try to stick as closely to Jack Gartside's pattern as possible. I use it a lot over here in Japan so it should do well for you in Scotland. Piker, here's a link to the late Jack Gartside's site where I found the pattern. http://www.jackgartside.com/art_pheasant_feathers.htm
