  1. Mike, they are very bony. If you catch any that are full of roe, you can sure eat the roe. Fry it on up.
  2. I'll be happy if can even hook anything on a 28 much less land it. As I told my bud, I'll try to cross that bridge when and if I get to it. Thanks!
  3. Glasses, BC glasses. https://www.readers.com/The-Mooresville.html
  4. Top secret, not anymore, midges. Picked up three trout on the size 26 on Friday. Thought I'd try tying a 28. Dang tiny hook.
  5. chugbug, Those Burk's HBIs are really nice. Thanks for the included recipe. The BWO's were cool too. I know what you mean about the 26/22 thing. I was texting a buddy last night and I mentioned I had picked up some 28's for our upcoming trip to the San Juan. He sent me a picture of a 24 next to a 32. I could barely even see it in the picture.
  6. Thanks GP, appreciated. The rojo is a 26 (TMC2487), the stoneflys are 16s(TMC2487) and the Catskill style is an 18 (standard dry fly hook).Winter tailwater fishing around here is 24/26 pretty much exclusively. Come spring the stones will come into play
  7. A few I've been working on with a rojo midge variation for BCT.
  8. Any other rivers close to me fishable this year? If so, Ill gladly fish them... haha Piedra, Pinos? I'm hitting the South Platte tomorrowPinos is private most of the river, wish I knew someone that owns a streatch. For some reason I thought the piedra was not fishable this time of year, but Ill check it out. As for the south platte, isnt that up near Denver? Thats like a 6 hour drive.... and its winter so somewhat dangerous through the mountains. about an hour SW of Denver. I got 2 browns, a cuttbow and an 18" rainbow. Was 60 and partly cloudy. Winter is pretty mild down here so far. You can just blast over the passes.

  10. Last for January. As an upstate New Yorker, from the Catskill area, I cut my fly fishing teeth on Schoharie Creek and the Esopus. I thought a Catskill style fly would be apropriate. Here's to February's flies, cheers
  11. No kidding. I blew some errant fibers off one and thought I was going to lose the rest of 'em.
  12. Fantastic month for tying. Great jobs everyone. Very impressive stuff. Bourbon and Bugs last night. Some size 26 black midges for the San Juan box
  13. I sent an email off to Dr. Slick asking about sharpening the razor scissors. The reply was very fast and informative. I'll bust out the stone before tonight's Bourbon and Bugs tying session. They can be sharpened. We can do it for $10.00 Or you can have them done by a professional or yourself. Only sharpen the straight edge ( non -serrated) Start angle is 30% Wet stone or ceramic sharpener is fine.
  14. Gotta say I think my DK Supreme is an awesome vise (vice would have been appropriate too). With the midge jaws, 28s and even 30s are ok. Of course, I can barely see a 30. As to the original post, very good review.
  15. Dr. slick razor scissors 4" model. Work great worth the 25$. They are sharp and have fine tip for close work. For hair I use a cheap pair of cabela's scissors. Wire, a fingernail clipper
  16. Thanks GP flyfisherman. Nice caddis you posted too.More of the H&L project. I'm not hating the calf body anymore, downgraded to dislike.
  17. KoldKutters for the win. Effective and inexpensive. I used the Simms carbide tipped studs, they worked until the carbide falls out of the head of the stud and they are waaaaaaaay to expensive. The KoldKutters use a normal 1/4" hex socket to install (or a flat blade screwdriver). Throw the 1/4" socket into a drill and in 10 minutes or so both boots are done. They stay in quite well but will need replacing. Depending on your fishing habit the replacement interval will vary. I'd say I replace my whole set maybe 2x/year. We fish year round here in CO and I personally get in about 60 or so days on the river. YMMV.
  18. The H&L project is proceeding apace. Thanks to sandflyx and Tom Cummings for their advice. I ran an unscented dryer sheet through the barrel and into the receptacle of the stacker. No more static cling. Also used a bigger clump which I combed thorougly.
  19. Thank you sir. I'll give that a try.
  20. assuming you meant me sandflyx, thanks. I'll give that a shot.
  21. I tied a few up those Screaming Banshee's up a while ago. I got it from Charlie Craven's site. "http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/details.cfm?parentID=206" It's not that tough to tie. It works pretty well too. Anyhow, stripped quills, biots (turkey and goose), Whiting saddle hackle and superfine dubbing are what I like to use if I can. Calf hair, turkey flats and trilobal dubbing are not high on my list. As for techniques, splitting a 3 fiber mayfly tail is a chore
