Fr Fly 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 What, if anything, is a suitable substitute for yak hair? I tried to search, but the function doesn't allow words fewer than four characters. Thanks, kevin
Inconnu 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 So far I haven't found anything that would satisfy me as a substitute. Are you having trouble finding it?
Kevin Kelly 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 I'm sure i could find it online, but i don't have any myself, and there's none available locally, either. Oh well, guess i'll just have to break down and put in an order for some. Of course, if you're ordering tying materials, i'm pretty sure you're not allowed to order just one thing, so i guess i'll have to stock up on some other stuff, too. I hate having to do that, but somebody's gotta, i guess. Thanks, kevin

nightfish 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2007 What kind of substitute are you looking for...synthetic or natural? Synthetic-Big Fly Fiber http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/item/SM-760020-0000 Natural-Llama streamer patch http://www.canadianllama.com/cat16_1.htm
Inconnu 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2007 I Googled Bigfoot hair, but couldn't find it?? Llama isn't really long enough nor does it have the qualities of yak and while the Big Fly fibre is nice (I have a few colours) it really doesn't come close to Yak either in my humble opinion. Basically Yak is about 10 to 12 inches and more like kinky polar bear, very good translucent properties.
Grunt 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 Try American Buffalo. Check Tandy Leather or Crazy Crow.
