Yak Substitute?

Recommended Posts

What, if anything, is a suitable substitute for yak hair? I tried to search, but the function doesn't allow words fewer than four characters.

Thanks,

kevin

I'm sure i could find it online, but i don't have any myself, and there's none available locally, either. Oh well, guess i'll just have to break down and put in an order for some. Of course, if you're ordering tying materials, i'm pretty sure you're not allowed to order just one thing, so i guess i'll have to stock up on some other stuff, too. I hate having to do that, but somebody's gotta, i guess.

Thanks,

kevin

I Googled Bigfoot hair, but couldn't find it??

Llama isn't really long enough nor does it have the qualities of yak and while the Big Fly fibre is nice (I have a few colours) it really doesn't come close to Yak either in my humble opinion.

Basically Yak is about 10 to 12 inches and more like kinky polar bear, very good translucent properties. :)

Yak hair is available from:

Cabela's (800.237.4444 24/7) $4.99, 8 colors

Angler's Workshop (360.225.9445, M/F 9-5, Sat 9-4 PST), $4.90, 16 colors

Bob Marriot's (800.535.6633, M/Sat 9-6PST), $5.75, 18 colors

You can order as little as you want from any of them.

By the way, Bigfoot hair is available from Sasquatch & Co
