Cool idea...

I bet that fly really shines on a sinking line - putting out some strong vibrations in a current.

On a floater it probably would just flop on its side (which is good but limits the tail action) unless there is something of a lead keel or I am mistaken in assuming the fly is made of foam...

Good Day,

Another question - are these being designed with fresh or saltwater in mind? Looks like it would also do well as a shad imitation for largemouth...?

Made for salt for stripers (peanut bunker) but shad look almost the same so I'm sure a bucket mouth would eat it but I've not seen too many floaters in fresh water. It's more for the fall run when the blues and striper push the bait tight up against the rocks and between them there is a bunch of little floaters waiting to be eaten. Been thinking about a gilled crease fly with the fabric and foil combo... I think it would look good but what a pain in the azz

Crease flies will work in fresh water. I narrow the profile to more of a minnow shape, and close the mouth in some cases. Most of my fresh water ones are 1 to 3 inches long. I'll have to take some pictures of the the ones I tie up. The work real well off of a short leader on an intermediate or sinking line.

I'd test them for you, but to be honest right now the test would be rigged. Spring stripers are hungry and will hit just about anything in fact this time of year is when I use the flies from last year that are pretty ratty.

A better time to test would be in July or August when the fish are more settled and a bit more discriminating.

sounds cool! those shad-type color schemes look promising. also...a bluegill type pattern would attract the attention of any largemouth! B)

Ok just finished some for you and what a pain they were... Too small. These should cast well with your 6wt and should land you a bucket mouth or two...They have little rattles in them but they still make a racket
